FLAMED by Katie Douglas

This reverse harem paranormal romance will leave you hot!
Flamed by Katie Douglas is OUT NOW!

Flamed is one hugely fun, gentle and steamy read

I very much enjoyed this story of Alora and her hot dragon-shifter men, Brynn, Canavan, Sharpe and Argon. The author managed to convey distinct personalities for the male characters and make them very likeable. Alora was a strange but wonderful mix of politically savvy and yet quite naive and unworldly too. I adored her, she was far too sweet and loving to not like!

This is a very low angst read, perfect for when you want pure entertainment that is easy to read. Problems are resolved fairly easily but, as long as you read this knowing it isn’t a deep or complex book, there is still a lot of enjoyment to be found within it’s pages.

The plot has plenty of twists and turns, and whilst the world building was fairly detailed and had been given plenty of thought, it did lack depth on occasions. Not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the story though. I really liked how Flamed set up the possibility of future books and will definitely be reading those too.

I’m happy to recommend this to fans of Reverse-Harem books and those who love a light, sci-fi romance.

A lost princess. A species on the brink of extinction. A legend that could save them all.

I was having the worst day ever. A terror attack hit the center of my father’s interplanetary empire. In the chaos, I got captured by space pirates. They said they were going to sell me.  Alone and scared, I hardly believed it when four huge dragon shifters tore the ship apart and rescued me. But it’s not over.

Brynn, Canavan, Sharpe and Argon are outlaws persecuted on their home world. They’re stacked, tattooed, and they each have a different-colored flame with a unique sensual power.  When I do something truly dangerous, Argon doesn’t hesitate to correct my behavior and the others quickly prove they’re more than willing to back him up, while I am left with crimson cheeks — top and bottom.

I need to return to Nidia and do my duty to the galaxy. But the four dragon shifters quickly draw me into games that set my pulse racing. And when a deeper conspiracy is revealed, I’m left questioning not only my priorities, but where my loyalties truly lie.

Set in the same universe as Her Daddy and Her Master, this ‘why choose’ sci-fi romance features all the steamy things you’ve come to expect from Katie Douglas. If you like strength in numbers, a spot of intrigue and unconventional storylines, this book is for you!

FALLEN (Dark Necessities Prequel) by Felicity Brandon

FIVE STARS – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Genre: Psychological, dark romance
Release: June 26, 2019
Cover Design: Eris Adderly.

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/45997110-fallen

This book made my feelings ricochet like a squash ball around a court

Wow, wow, wow. There were times when I almost liked Ethan, and there were times when I hated that man – especially by the end! How Ms Brandon aims to convince me that he deserves Lily is beyond my ability to imagine. I just know that he is one sexily gorgeous but very bad man.

There were a couple of occasions when I wanted to give Lily a good shake out of her naivety. However she IS only 18 and therefore I could understand these decisions. And so often it was a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea! I loved her inner strength, whilst the real life me would never agree with some of her choices, the fictional me loved every twist and turn arising from those decisions.

This book had me on the very edge of my seat for the vast majority of it, the tension is unparalleled and I don’t know how Ms Brandon managed to maintain it for so long. Honestly this is both gripping and twisted, a truly dark read that has the ability to horrify at the same time as it titillates – and in equal measures.

Despite knowing the ultimate outcome for this couple, since both the prologue of book one AND the Dark Necessities Trilogy tell us, I’m still not sure if I want Lily to stick with Ethan or toss him aside. Ethan is an entire game of Snog, Marry and Kill all on his own. I absolutely adored some of the depraved games he forced Lily to play, probably as much if not more than she did. At the same time I hated his twisted thinking and illogical logic. So often his reasoning was UNREASONABLE and that is what makes him such a great anti-hero.

Oh Ms Brandon thank you so much for Ethan and Lily – I can not wait for the conclusion of their epic story!

She should have run while she had the chance…

Lily Simpson escapes, leaving her brooding captor to rot, but she’s still not free. Unable to resist the forbidden temptation Ethan Reilly offers, Lily is once again drawn back into his dangerous web of power and submission.

When they travel north, their desire blooms into something even darker—something Lily both detests and adores in equal measure. But when she learns of the fate of her best friend, everything changes. The question is, will there be a second opportunity to escape Ethan’s clutches?

Suspenseful, thought-provoking, and peppered with breathtaking scenes, this fast-paced psychological, dark romance will haunt you.

3.75 Stars ⭐⭐⭐✨

Whilst this is a tale of never judging a book by it’s cover, this cover does do the story justice.

I very much enjoyed this tale of troubled Starr and confused Spencer. Both main characters were incredibly easy to like and empathise with, I could feel myself building an easy connection with them both. Even Starr blowing hot and cold felt understandable given recent events and a controlling ex.

There are quite a few sub-plots running through the book and, whilst they added a lovely depth and richness to the story, I do think they distracted from the romance element a little. I felt the chemistry between the couple, and we had plenty of confuddled feelings from the pair but I wasn’t 100% convinced I’d seen them fall in love. I needed just a touch more passion, I wanted to be swept away by emotion a little more.

No Hearbreaker Required is still very much a full of feels book, in the main emotions and feelings were really well portrayed. JoAnn Sky is very much a talented writer who makes reading feel so easy. That might sound an odd thing to say but I’ve read enough books where it feels as though I’m having to put in effort to get through it. It is never an issue with this book, the story just flows really smoothly, carrying you along in its gentle embrace.

As mentioned before, there are several story strands running throughout the plot. I liked how it added colour to the palette, painting a whole picture for us rather than providing a sketched outline. It also allowed us to gain valuable insight into both Starr and Spencer’s personalities, to see them grow and connect as the story progressed.

Whilst there are some steamier scenes, not only is this fairly slow burn but it is also a fade-to-grey book. However that didn’t make it any less enjoyable of a read but is a plus for those who don’t enjoy graphic or copious sex scenes.

When an avalanche crushes her world, Olympic hopeful Starr Taylor loses her job, her boyfriend, and worst of all, her confidence. She’s working on getting her life back together and moving forward, and it certainly won’t be with Spencer Kensington, the far-too-attractive playboy lawyer she’s forced to play nice with at their friends’ wedding. Unfortunately, Spencer’s trip to Reno gets extended unexpectedly, and Starr suddenly finds herself way too close for comfort with the man she’s quickly realizing is more than he appears.

Spencer is a tough, no-nonsense New York businessman with a no-commitment rule in the bedroom. But a few days of living with Starr, feeding goats and helping her save troubled teens, has him feeling something he can’t identify. In fact, the more Spencer gets to know the surprisingly vulnerable and tempting woman, the duller his superficial life in the city starts to seem. But everything he’s worked for is waiting for him, and as Spencer’s flight back home grows closer, he’s left wondering if the life he has is really the life he wants.

INEXORABLE (Cavalieri Della Morte) by Jo-Anne Joseph

4.75 stars – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Arthur’s story was so very much worth waiting for…

A huge bravo to Jo-Anne Joseph – in this book she took me from really disliking Arthur to having quite a soft spot for him. The picture I’d got of Arthur, from the previous Cavalieri Della Morte books had felt a little disjointed and almost contradictory at times. Whether by pure luck or fantastic writing (and based on the rest of the book I’m plumping for the latter) this story drew all those stands together and added enough extra to build a very believable and coordinated picture of the man. Everything we had seen of him previously melded so well with the man we saw in this book.

And then there is Gaia, who I utterly and totally fell in love with. My god she was just kick-ass, tough and determined. Honestly if you don’t love her then I just can’t be friends with you, for me she made this book. Did I mention I loved her and that she was absolutely amazing?

The power battles between Gaia and Arthur were so much fun, this was one alpha guy who wasn’t going to steam-roller all over the girl. Most of the time it was a toss up as to who had who by the balls. This is the type of heroine I love to read about, but I’m fairly certain you already guessed that!

Talking of guessing, this plot has one ‘ta-da – surprise!’ moment after another, this was one abso-bloody-lutely amazing and suspense filled plot. Whilst I could see one tiny twists JUST before it was revealed, for me there was nothing trite or predictable about this plot. It was also so captivating and un-put-downable that I read it in one sitting.

Whilst I’ve enjoyed this series, there are some books that have clearly stood head and shoulders above the rest, this is one of them. For me it had the perfect balance of action, suspense, mystery, conflict and steam and this is a book I am only too happy to recommend.

They call me a God, Demon, Monster,
Depends on which side of me they’ve faced.
I’m cold, with an insatiable thirst for blood, lust, and money.
If you’ve got my attention,
You’re either next on my list, or about to slip into my sheets.

I’m Arthur Calthorpe, leader of the Tabella Della Morte.
I don’t trust, I own.
I don’t love, I desire.
I don’t ask, I take.
And I want Gaia.

The silver haired tyrant is a ruthless criminal,
The first time I saw him was in my mother’s bed,
But the monster has set his sights on me.
He’s relentless, and he’s found my Achilles heel.
When he offers me a bargain, I’m hard-pressed to refuse.

What lengths am I willing to go to be free of him, and how far will he go to stop me?
The trouble is those eyes and the fact that I want to know the story behind them.

Praise for the novel:
“…THIS BOOK, y’all!! It scrambled my brain, put my heart through a blender and scorched my soul. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I never could have imagined this. This bloody, vindictive, sinister and oh-so-delicious masterpiece! …” – Book Addict

“…This is a perfect end to this series, it has twists and turns, harrowing scenes that they have endured throughout their lives and moments of reflection and regret that humanised the monsters. Happiness is fleeting unless you work at it and pursue it and Arthur finds his happy in others pain. He is sinister and brutal and yet beautifully controlled and precise with each movement he makes against his enemies. …” – Obsessed by Books

The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant book #3 (Stand Alone) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

4.5 stars – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ✨

This story has more twists than a pretzel….

… and boy is it amazing fun. Whilst technically part of an ongoing series this could be read as a stand alone, since the author fills in any backstory that is needed. However I do think reading all 3 books will result in the best reading experience. These books are a wonderfully, zany smoosh up of paranormal, adventure, romance, suspense, humour and general weirdness. It’s a cozy mystery taking one heck of an LSD trip.

“What the devil is a machoron?”
“You. A macho moron.”

Michael and Lula

Michael continues to bemuse with his strange mixed up personality. Sometimes geek, other times sexist caveman and always hopeless male.

The hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up, looking for a fight. Yes, even my hairs are fighters. I am quite manly like that.

His life continues to be ruled by his librarian (I had a feeling there was more to her than we knew) and his small blue electric car.

“Oh, you’re such a pussy.”
“Am not.” I am the Executioner. Or was. I fear nothing except tiny blue cars.”

I felt we got to know Marian a lot more in this book, and I definitely liked what I saw. So did Michael, resulting in some very tented pants! We also get to not only see more of Nice, Lula and Viviana but also learn some startling truths about them. Trying to solve the mysteries in this is like trying to solve one of those ball-in-the-hole dexterity puzzles. You can get a couple of the pieces in place but then some catastrophe occurs and you have to start again.

Talking of Nice, that man (sorry vampire) is just too funny for words. He is so well described, so perfectly crafted I can clearly picture, and hear, him. I sort of picture a camp young Iggy Pop! I loved the role he played in this book, including the spanner in the works at the end! (You’re not going to want to miss THAT twist!)

The crotch of his pants is so tight we can see everything. Two golf balls and a flashlight.

I was really pleased that the ongoing backstory was neatly tied up in this book, though how MJP kept all those various strands and loops in order left me in awe. The plot is breathtaking, intriguing, amusing, emotional and steamy (yay!), goodness knows how she managed to dream it all up! The story ends with a fairly mild cliff-hanger, I can’t wait to see what troubles befall Michael next. I will definitely be continuing with this series, the characters are just too good to give up!

“What were you saying about men being wrong all the time?”
She shrugs. “Even a broken clock is right twice in a day.”

Genre: Paranormal humorous MYSTERY, with romantic elements

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes an uncomfortably hilarious Mystery with a heaping help of sexual frustration, THE LIBRARIAN’S VAMPIRE ASSISTANT, Book Three. (Yep! It’s a STAND-ALONE. But why not read them all because…fun!)

Michael Vanderhorst is not your usual vampire. For starters, he works in a library, is in love with Miriam, his hot nerdy human boss who has no clue what he is, and he looks like a college student.

In reality, Michael is an ancient deadly vampire, an ex-assassin, and is currently the de facto king of his kind ever since their ruling party disappeared. To where? He doesn’t know, but if he wants his life back, he’ll have to find out. (Mystery!) Especially because a civil war is brewing, and being king makes his librarian a mark for his enemies. She is, after all, his biggest weakness.

With a global uprising about to explode, Michael must give her the protection of his army. Only one problem: She must become his queen first. But every attempt he makes to tell her the truth is met with extreme hostility. “Vampires aren’t real. That’s crazy talk, Michael!” Clearly, the topic frightens her.

With time running out and her life on the line, Michael is left with one option: Marry her. Without her knowing.

Can he pull it off? And what will happen when the fight comes to their door?

BURNED by Jennifer Bene

4.25 stars
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

This is one of those books that leaves you wondering what exactly it was you just read, whether you should really be reading it and if there is something wrong with you because you enjoyed it.

I read all the warnings, fully heading the author repeatedly saying this was dark and hopeless. And boy did this take me to the darkest, most depraved depths of hell. I knew going in that this wouldn’t totally be my kind of read, but I also adore Ms Bene so much that, despite that fact, I had to read this. It very much makes it difficult for me to rate the book though. I’ve settled on four stars quite simply because I felt the story flowed, the characters were well crafted and had personality, there was some good world building and background detail and the writing is of a high standard.

Burned is a no-holds-barred and no happiness whatsoever type of read, just in case you didn’t know. There is NO romance, NO happiness and NO satisfactory bad guy getting their just deserts. And until you’ve read one of these types of books you can’t be sure whether or not you will like it. What I will say is that I did enjoy this much more than the original Inferno books. It just felt like it had a little more direction and reason. I also like that the ending, whilst totally a Debby Downer of a conclusion, felt like a hopeless hope. Believe me that will make more sense if and when you’ve read the book!

Bryden is a loathsome man and whilst his actions are not reasonable or acceptable, I could almost understand the ‘why’ of it. Marian was much more of a monster to me, she knew the truth, she knew right from wrong, she knew better. To allow, condone and participate in those acts made her much more of a monster in my eyes. It takes a talented author to craft truly believable, hateful and despicable characters.

My only criticism, which was also true of the original Inferno book, is that there is no explanation of how the family is funded. Bryden goes grocery shopping and I didn’t get the impression that they were self sufficient. Whilst that information wasn’t vital to the story, it was something that I made me ponder and pulled me from the story at one point.

The connection between Ella and Wesley, despite the way Bryden tried to pervert it, gave my poor little soul something good to cling to. It was what allowed me to connect to the story and ‘enjoy’ it, though I’m not sure how appropriate a description enjoy is. They gave each other strength, comfort and ultimately a choice. It was a tiny sliver of grey amidst the pitch black.

I didn’t want to be this man.
I never wanted to be like my father.

I just wanted to be loved by him. Accepted. That’s how this happened, that’s how I became this person. Too many years of listening, too many years craving his approval. His words burned into my mind.

And now I crave things the world says I shouldn’t.

I open doors that should remain closed. I cross lines meant to be straight and narrow. But they’ll understand, they’ll see just like I did.

This is the right way of things. The way it’s meant to be.

And whether I have his name or not, at least I’ve finally become the perfect son.

VALOR by Measha Stone

4.5 stars – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ✨

An excellent romantic suspense with a hot sauce of domination

This is definitely one of my favourite books of the Cavalieri Della Morte series. The author writes with such panache, imbuing her characters with the depth and emotion necessary to connect profoundly with them. Reading this felt like coming home, warm and relaxed, somewhere I not only was happy to be but also never wanted to leave. The story flowed through me, never needing any effort on my part to read, rather it soaked into my very being.

I adored both Dustan and Cherise, they felt so normal and believable, not to mention they had a chemistry that was electric. In many ways this felt very much like Ms Stone’s Owned & Protected series, though without the Pet Play and BDSM. There is a definite air of domination by Dustan, though Cherise, despite starting out as an introvert, is very much NOT the submissive. The scenes following where she decided to be a Bad Girl were very hot indeed! Whilst I love my BDSM stories, this was the type of relationship and power exchange that anybody can still enjoy reading about.

The twists, turns and action in the plot held my attention throughout. There are no silly scenes that stretch the imagination – it is enough for me that Dustan is an elite assassin. We don’t need, and thankfully don’t get, ridiculous scenes where he repeatedly and single-handedly battles dozens of men. Where he receives grievous injuries but still takes down a small army. It may seem odd that I’m telling you what ISN’T in the book, but I’m hoping to convey how much this story line worked.

Whilst I was very much looking forward to reading this offering in the CDM series, I also had high expectations of it. Of course this then leaves one open to disappointment – and I’m always honest when that happens, even when I normally love the author’s work. The wonderful news is that this didn’t leave me flat or scrabbling for words, trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. This book easily stands on it’s own merits and is worth reading even if you haven’t read any of the rest of the series. In fact it is written in a way that means you DON’T need to have read any of the other books.

Valor is an 18+ book ideal for fans of the author, romantic suspense and those who love well written characters and a good plot.

STRUGGLE (BEAUTIFUL BOOK 1) by Lilliana Anderson

4 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

This book was formally A Beautiful Struggle and the novella Too Close. Consequently this makes it a fairly long read, but it is well worth spending the time on, as it’s also a rather wonderful story.

Overall I had a very positive experience reading this and on reflection would say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I liked the initial scene setting, world building and getting to know the main players. However I’m going to be brutally honest and say that there was a part of this book that dragged for me. From about 35%-45% I just wasn’t quite feeling it, the pace felt slow and the story line a little repetitive. Then **POW** it really kicked up a gear and I found the Lilliana Anderson I know and love. I found the emotional turmoil, the heartache, the feelings that I had only caught passing moments of, until that point.

This is ‘sort of’ a love triangle, with Katrina torn between her BFF David and her work colleague Elliot. David is the one who she has loved for a very long time but who has already said no to any chance of a relationship. The one man who has always been there for her and can be relied upon, too special to risk losing. Elliot is the hot guy in the office, the one all the girls lust after, but work have a no relationships rule. Is a relationship worth risking their jobs for?

There are times when neither guy deserves Katrina, at one point I even felt as though she should give Connor a chance. They both have baggage that ends up hurting Katrina, leaving the question of who will get their act together first and give her the HEA she deserves?

Since this is an update and re-release of both A Beautiful Struggle and Too Close, I already know who the hero of Book #2 Forever is. Which gave me a heads up of what to expect in this, without actually giving away any spoilers for how this plot would play out. Now in some ways I thought she forgave her ‘forever’ guy a little too easily BUT the heart wants what the heart wants. (view spoiler in my GR review)

The entire story is from Katrina’s point of view, though the author writes with such emotion and passion, that it was very easy to understand how other characters are feeling too. I loved how my feelings towards ALL the main characters altered over the course of the book. There were times I liked them and other times I loathed them, but never did I not care about them – a sure sign of excellent writing.

Katrina very much felt like the young adult she was, sometimes she was naive or foolish, sometimes just down right careless but always believable and real. I sometimes forgot David was the same age, he occasionally felt older, however when I did remind myself of the facts it made his behaviour so much more understandable. Whilst a little older, Elliott was still somewhere between boy and man, evidenced by his lack of backbone where his father was involved. I have to say, normally NA isn’t my thing, the fact that I enjoyed this is further evidence of how good I find this author’s writing.

I loved how the Too Close gave us a deeper understanding of David. It also altered my perception of Struggle, though I’m still undecided on whether I would have preferred to read it first or not. I do recommend reading this book for NA fans, those who love a good emotional contemporary romance and fans of the author. It’s a cracking good read.

“Are you dating him?”
I’ve been best friends with David since the beginning of high school, and that question has been asked about us a lot. It’s like people can’t fathom how a super hot, charismatic guy can be just friends with an overly tall, boyish-figured girl. Wait. I think they probably can, because the next question is always a hopeful, “He’s single?”

David is always single. But, he’s never wanting.

Girls throw themselves at his feet like he’s some kind of rockstar. But not me. No. I’m just his friend; a fact he likes to remind me of at every opportunity.

And I’m OK with that—I think—because he’s right. Our friendship is too important. And honestly, I don’t want to be one of David’s girls. I see the way he uses them to meet his needs then casts them aside when his interest wanes. I’m not about that life. I want something more.

Something I don’t think David is capable of giving me.

That’s not to say I’m immune to his charms. I’ve never been immune.

delight in the way his eyes twinkle when he smiles at me.

relish in the way his voice ripples beneath my skin when we share a secret moment.

And I love the way his fingers feel against my skin when we touch…

Yes, I’ve always loved David. Problem is, David has never loved me. Not the way I want him to, anyway.

So, what’s a girl to do? Pine and hope for something that will never come? Or suck it up and move on?

I’m choosing to accept my reality and move on, a choice made easier when I start a new job and the hot AF junior solicitor shows an interest in me despite our office’s ‘No Dating’ policy.

David should be happy for me. Elliot is the first guy I’ve felt a deep attraction to in years. Despite the secrecy needed, he seems like the perfect distraction from my troubles, the perfect solution to heal my heart. He even likes David and doesn’t make an issue about my best friend being a guy.

But David isn’t happy. In fact, he’s downright angry over my new relationship. He says he’s worried I’ll get hurt again. But I don’t know, it feels bigger than that. It feels like I’m losing my best friend. Even though I’m playing by his rules.

What am I supposed to do? While I’m torn with indecision, the choice could be made for me. And this time, I might lose everything…

Katrina struggles with following her heart or following her mind in this gripping romantic drama featuring new and extended scenes from books A Beautiful Struggle and Too Close, republished as Struggle: Beautiful Series, one.

HER DARK LEGION by Pippa DaCosta

HER DARK LEGION is the fifth and final book of The Messenger Chronicles. It is a slow burn, mid heat, fantasy/sci-fi blended reverse harem. It is written by the hugely talented Pippa DaCosta and is a not-to-be-missed series. Jam packed with hot, moody, males, a snarky AI in a human shell and one kick-ass heroine you will be spellbound from the first line to the last.

Discovery is worthless without the journey.

This book took me several days to read, it wasn’t because I wasn’t loving every heartbreaking and soul crushing moment of it. It wasn’t because it didn’t have me riveted by it’s amazing plot, outstanding world building and unparalleled characters. It was quite simply that I wasn’t ready, and indeed am still not ready to let go of this world and say goodbye to Kesh, Sota, Kellee, Talon, Sirius and even Eledan. The conclusion to what has been an epic tale was full of action, adventure, tragedy, manipulation and surprises.

I wanted to cry in her {Hulia’s} arms, but I somehow pushed the swell of emotion down.

KESH, Her Dark Legion

Well Kesh, at that point you did better than me because I spent a good half of this book either finding a quiet corner to sob in or with tears streaming down my face. The emotion from each and every main character tore me apart. Again. And again. And again. I have tears welling in my eyes even now, and feel a strange mixture of both joy and sadness.

I wanted to hear his voice, one last time. I wanted to feel his touch on my face and his kiss on my lips. and I never would.

With lines like that how HOW am I meant to remain an in-charge capable adult woman? Impossible! Every single time it left me a snivelling mess. This book was everything I wanted and more. So much more. A whole universe full of stars could not shine as brightly as this story, nor would be able to bear adequate witness to do this book justice.

And those guys of Kesh’s, wow did they pull out all the stops in this concluding book. There was absolutely no doubt about the depth of their feelings for her. Each of them, in their own way, worships the very ground she walks on, loves her to the stars and back and would do anything within their power for her.

“It’s all right.” His knuckles brushed my cheek, then his fingers stroked my hair, setting it right, like he needed everything to be in it’s place.
Nothing was
all right. I was so tired of the pain, the endless battle.
His lips brushed my forehead. “He took what he thought was most precious to me…” Talen’s warm fingers captured my chin, his gaze fierce. “He was wrong.”

“Where’s your star, Kellee?”
“Right here, in my arms.”
The words broke me open, exposing everything I was and had been.

I mean, talk about *swoon*. But then we had the reminders that all these men were immortal whilst Kesh, with a piece of the Pole Star inside her, was very much mortal. A fact that came very close to breaking those men on more than one occasion.

These impossible males would not be mine forever, but while I had them captured in my mortal hands, I’d love them wholly and completely. No matter what happened after, we would have lived and loved. It would be enough. It had to be enough.

I rarely felt the passage of time so keenly as when I was with her. Everything in me ached to pull her back, to capture her light and savor it before she burned out.

Thankfully there were some wonderful moments of banter and humour to lift the spirits. These usually involved Sota and Kellee, though it wasn’t exclusively their gig. And they just served to make the poignant moments even more touching.

“You’re going to need a bodyguard who can kick fae and human ass with style and without prejudice.”
“That role’s taken, Sparky.” Kellee stretched his claws.
style, vakaru. You look like someone’s rabid hound.”

His gun ports smoked. His tek eye glowed, but his mouth wore a modest smile.
“He was about to launch into a villainous monologue and ain’t nobody got time for that.”

SOTA, Her Dark Legion

Now whilst I’ve fallen in love with all the main characters, even going so far as to have a soft spot for the much misunderstood (IMO) Eledan, my favourite has always been Marshall Kellee. It’s just something about his wild west lawman ways and his dark good looks.

“Oh really?” he drawled in that smooth voice he liked to unleash on unsuspecting females.

KELLEE, Her Dark Legion

Yep, that’s the guy I’m talking about. The one who only needs to quirk an eyebrow to have the panties of all females in a 20 mile radius melting. Not just the females either! We really got to see all the true depths and many facets of Kellee in Her Dark Legion.

For the first time since I’d met him, his expression was open and raw, letting me see everything on his face.
Marshall Kellee was afraid.
For Me.

The weight behind the blow was enough to topple him. His head struck the banister on the way down, knocking him out cold. Now we had ourselves cargo that didn’t argue.
“That was unnecessary,” Talen remarked.
“Probably,” I cracked my knuckles. “But it felt real good.”

Throughout all the trials and tribulations, intrigue, schemes and manipulations, Kesh continued to battle her way towards the final showdown. Weighed down with the expectations of Fairie herself, the hopes of the saru, the fears of her males, Kesh fought with everything she had. Gave everything she had, prepared to sacrifice everything for those she loved.

Wrapping him in my arms, I held him close and listened to the beat of his immortal fae-heart, to the rhythm of his breathing, committing his soft hardness to memory. Maybe he’s listen to my heart, and hear my breathing, and he’s remember me. Perhaps, in his memories, I could live forever.

Events had led us right here, either by fate or by Eledan. Harlow’s fall, Arcon’s rise, the Game of Lies, Hapters’s dark fae, and Valand’s dead… Whatever the source, there was no escaping what would come next.

I’ve used far too many quotes and I just don’t care. I could have chosen a hundred more. There are just so many lines that punched me in the gut and tore my insides apart. These are ones that I just couldn’t leave out.

I told myself I wouldn’t cry.
And I’d failed within seconds.
This was what he’d wanted. He’d chosen this. I would respect that. I didn’t own him. I didn’t own any of them. They’d always been free to follow me, but Talen …. I’d loved his honest, gentle heart and kind words.
He’d encouraged me when I was low. He’d loved me when I thought I wasn’t worthy. He’d never hurt me and never would. Talen was a better person than any of us.

His arm looped around my back and pulled me in so there was nothing between us. His warmth enveloped me. There was no safer place in all four realms.

I was so many things to so many people, and this war needed me to be those things to end it. You must survive yourself to unlock your truth.

And to finish, a quote that sums up the current state of my heart.

I almost couldn’t speak, and when I did, the words were just a whisper.
“It felt like goodbye.”

“I’ve come too far to surrender now…”

Eledan’s nightmare has been unleashed upon the worlds and with Oberon gone, only the messenger crew stand in its way.

Kellee, Talen, Sirius, Sota, and Kesh. Together, they are stronger, but there are forces on Faerie who do not want the worlds saved, forces that would see the Messenger and her crew torn apart.

Queen to Faerie’s new king, Messenger and more to the saru, lover to some and a weapon to others, but who is Kesh Lasota really? A guiding light or an unwitting puppet?

Answers are coming.

The time for lies has passed.

And Kesh will soon learn some battles can’t be won alone.

5 STARS – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Bravo Myra Danvers, Lavish Destruction was everything and then some more.

The first two books of The Last Tritan series have had me excitedly on the edge of my seat, whilst also howling in frustration, snarling at shadows and bitter at all the injustices that were served up.  Lavish Destruction elicited all those familiar emotions but also, eventually, it gave me a tiny sliver of hope to temper the agony.

The author writes with a voice that holds you spellbound. Every single scene and conversation holds a purpose, nothing is as throw away as it may first appear. The sheer brilliance of how she weaves together so many different strands and story elements is astounding. What starts as seemingly random splashes of colour and texture, gradually form into a breathtaking tapestry that warps your mind with it’s beauty and sheer stunning brilliance.

Mila is mired in a twisted web of deceit, half truths and intricate plots. An unwilling pawn in the power struggles of others, she still allows her passions to rule her and still stumbles from one catastrophe to another. In some heroines I might find this an annoying trait, but there is just something so strong and determined, yet fragile and vulnerable, about her that I can’t help but adore Mila.
Asher continues to be somewhat of an arrogant ass, though he clearly cares for Mila, is it as a person or as a possession? Is he more interested in her power than in her? I’m not sure if he doesn’t know that for himself, he is wilfully blind to the truth or he just has his head shoved up his, well I’m sure you can guess where I mean. We do find that Asher’s position within the Elite is not as assured as first impressions gave. Add in the fact that evil forces are afoot, forces that have their own plans for Mila and Asher and you will understand the title of this book.

This is not a stand alone book, you need to have read both Ravenous Innocence and Insatiable Corruption prior to diving into the glorious depths of this tome. However all three books are absolutely amazing and will have you caught in a world of pain, mystery, despair, hope and magic. This is an amazing series and a definite must read.

“It’s the fight, isn’t it? The struggle. The idea that I’ll pin you down and take what I want…” He smiled, slow and dangerous. Watching me struggle to deny him. Watching me fail

Enslaved to a man I hate, I’m bound.

All that I was is gone. Taken. Stripped away, only to feed the beast who dares to call himself my equal, while having the gall to leave me helpless to his whims. Who offers protection in place of my Goddess-given power.

Protection I didn’t need before him.

Captain Asher Rawlings is a man apart. Relentless. Driven to take and possess.

And he’s winning.
