Six for Sunday

Books on your TBR because of someone else’s recommendation

This week’s #Six4Sunday, hosted by A Little But a Lot, is a very interesting topic – 6 books on your TBR because of someone else’s recommendation! Thankfully Cecile and Bex keep me very busy on Goodreads with their excellent reviews and recommendations of books to read. Thankfully I also created a shelf labelled “recommended by a friend” so the only challenge will be which 6 books to choose 😊.

1. Pretty Lies (Pleasure House #4) by Kitty Thomas

As a phone sex operator, Annette Waincott knows how to tease to get what she wants. That is, until she teases the wrong man at a club, claiming kinky fantasies she doesn’t really have. It must have been too much vodka and his tantalizing Russian accent. Too bad he believes her.
When the Russian accidentally kidnaps her twin sister as part of an ill-fated sex game, things quickly get real. In a desperate bid to free her twin, Annette offers herself to him in trade. He both terrifies and excites her, but she knows she can never trust him. The things he wants will push her to her limits and beyond. And this time, she can’t tell pretty lies and run away.

2. Monsters & Guardians by Kay Elle Parker

She’s not going down without a fight…
Fierce and feisty, Raine knows when she’s being hunted. It’s a sixth sense, part of who she is and a parting gift from her broken past. No family, no friends, she is a true self-made woman, independent and reliant on no one but herself.
Unbeknownst to her, she’s caught the attention of a bachelor pack of werewolves–five burly brothers, exiled from Ireland by their father until one of them stakes a claim on their mate and, in doing so, inherits the title of pack Alpha.
They intend to take her, the vicious little redhead with murder on her mind, and make her submit to one of them before her estrus cycle runs out–few mortal women are compatible with werewolves for breeding, and time is of the essence.
But Raine refuses to offer her submission, fighting for her freedom and her life, to the monsters demanding everything she has to give, everything she might have been, everything that makes her the woman she is.
When the new world she finds herself trapped in becomes a battlefield of blood and fur, will her captors be her monsters or her guardians?

3. The Bonus (Zetas #1) by A.J. Adams

Chloe is a seasoned drug courier who finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Facing a lingering and painful death at the hands of the Zeta cartel, Mexico’s most brutal organised crime syndicate, she persuades their enforcer to claim her.
Ex marine and dark ops expert Kyle Suarez is chief enforcer for the Zeta cartel. Ruthlessly efficient, he is feared by his enemies. When he claims Chloe, he simply expects to enjoy a well-deserved and disposable bonus.
Has Chloe made a huge mistake, or will her choice prove her salvation – and his?

4. Aries by Gemma James

Twelve men. A virgin queen. One arranged marriage.
The first time I met the boys of the Zodiac Brotherhood, I was forced to my knees for the introduction. Still grieving the death of my parents, I was a child queen, a pawn in my uncle’s agenda for wealth and gain. As my guardian, he had the authority to arrange a marriage upon my eighteenth birthday.
That meeting took place six years ago.
Now those boys are powerful men.
Twelve virile men that want to own me.
And I must spend a month with each one.
Bending and yielding to their desires and commands.

Shedding pieces of my innocence so long as my virtue remains intact.
Because they want a virgin queen after the last month concludes, and my uncle plans to auction me off to the highest bidder.
Out of the twelve men, only one has my heart.
And only one can claim my hand in marriage.
If only it were up to me to decide.

5. Pure Healing (Pure/Dark Ones #1) by Aja James

In the world of Pure Ones, where sexual intercourse with anyone other than one’s Eternal Mate leads to a slow, painful death within thirty days, love comes with the warning label “fall at your own peril”…
Rain: the Healer
From the first time she beheld him, she yearned to sooth his pain and torment and nurtured a secret, selfish desire – to have him for her very own…
Valerius: the Protector
Despite their instant attraction, he has staunchly avoided applying to be the Healer’s Consort, haunted by the brutality and violence of his past…
As the decadal Phoenix Rite draws near, as threats from their vampire nemesis intensify, Rain and Valerius must decide whether they let their histories and duties dictate their destiny or whether they risk all for a chance at everlasting love.

6. Darkness: The Complete Series (Darkness #1-4) by Nora Ash

Two mortal enemies rule this city – and I belong to them both.
I once fawned at the supernatural beings in our city. I marveled at their powers and praised them for saving us from murderers, rapists and arsonists.
Then I met him. The city’s most prominent superhuman. Its favored hero.
He saved my life. And then… then he marked me as his pet and taught me that in St. Anthony, there are no such things as heroes.
But with his claim, he caught the attention of everything that is dark and twisted in this city. Their eyes are on me now, and one of them will stop at nothing to take what belongs to his enemy.
Especially me.
No human woman can survive two powerful beings using her body as their battleground, but my city is doomed, corruption eating away at its very core. If I want to save it, I’ll have to submit to both the men determined to own me.
Breed me.
