Life Last Week

Well, the reading year started with a DNF, thankfully it was a library book so it was no great loss. It was also back to work after a very relaxing and pleasant Christmas break. However beautiful sunsets and rainbows were welcome treats from nature.

It was back to work on Tuesday and despite having only a few students in things were as busy as ever. I did stick to my goal of leaving work at work and even if it means staying late I can still totally switch off my brain when I get home. We’ve had a mixed bag of weather, going from having doors and windows open a week ago to ice and snow on Friday. Today has dawned with clear blue skies so hopefully, we will get some time outside.

Last Weeks Books

I was really looking forward to a Cornwall based romance but sadly the pace was lacking and the author definitely had a habit of telling rather than showing, so I ended up DNF’ing An Endless Cornish Summer.

I enjoyed the other two books, Neon Blue in particular is one I would recommend for those who love PNR/Urban Fantasy.

Currently Reading

Demons.
Can’t live without them.
Can’t unsummon them.

I tried living without him. I lost my powers. I slogged through days of dust. I couldn’t do it.
I called him back and he rose through the Gate on wings of flame. Wings no fire demon has ever had before.
I don’t know who I am anymore. I don’t know who he is. But I know some very powerful entities do not want us to be together.
As above, so below. War is coming, to both our planes.

  2. I’m jealous that you have managed to leave work at work. I don’t think I ever managed that—I even took an ‘easy’ job five years ago, and even that was a total nightmare of being available at all hours. I am disabled now, so no more working…but wow, I wish I had learned how to protect my boundaries better.

I think we have quite a different work ethic/expectation in the UK – workers unions are much more common over here and the EU introduced a lot of laws that benefited workers – so there isn’t so much pressure from bosses. However you can’t teach if you haven’t planned the work or marked the books, lol.

  5. Good for you, leaving work at work! I never truly managed to do that when I was teaching. You have reached a fantastic goal! Yes, I am becoming less committed to finishing books I don’t truly enjoy as there are so many fabulous books out there for the reading! 🙂

    1. It does mean there are some nights I stay quite late but it is definitely better for my mental health to keep work and home separate.

  6. The weather has been crazy here, too. We had 50F one day and two days later we got 6″ of snow. Now temps will be very cold over the next couple days. But your photos are lovely!

    Is attendance down due to illness and/or quarantine? That’s been happening at my kids’ school. The first day back was normal, but then numbers really dropped off. I hope everyone stays healthy. The flu is going around here (as well as covid).

    1. Crazy weather! I work with young people who have anxiety and other mental health issues, so holidays with their lack of routine are always followed by a dip in attendance. We have only had a few of them get Covid – mainly because most of them only leave the house to come to school and don’t socialise much.

I admit that’s gotten harder for me to do on the days I work from home. I am sorry An Endless Cornish Summer did not work out you. I do like the sound of Neon Blue. I hope you have a great week!
