Tell Me Something Tuesday #TMST #Classics

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post hosted by Jen @That’s What I’m Talking About, where bloggers discuss a wide range of topics from books and blogging to life in general. Do you read classics? Why or why not?

No, nope, nada, nopey, no. I’ve tried several times but am so focused on understanding the old-fashioned wordage I find myself unable to get lost in the story. I love watching TV and film adaptations so it’s not a problem with the storyline, but when I read I want to be transported away, utterly immersed in the prose, and most of the classics don’t achieve that.

Given my answer, is there a classic you would recommend to me?

  1. I used to read a lot more classics. I couldn’t tell you the last time I read one though. I’m a huge Jane Austen fan, but I also think that there’s something about her writing that you don’t have to understand the wording because the way things flow gives off a certain vibe. I don’t even know if that makes sense to anyone but me, lol. But I used to think I was supposed to read certain books and felt some level of shame that there were classics I didn’t read. I’ve finally let all of that go.

  2. You are so funny. I read more classics before I was made to read classics in school. I didn’t hate them all, but they just aren’t the type of books I find myself wanting to pick up

    1. I also question whether, for instance, Jane Austin really did put lots of hidden meaning and social commentary into her stories, or whether she was just writing a fun story she hoped someone would enjoy.

  3. I don’t read them either. Snooze fest for me. I would like to try Jane Austin at some point – probably on audio so I can ignore the prose easier! lol!
