Bite Me: A Vampire Anthology
by Zoe Blake, Addison Cain, Alta Hensley, Sara Fields, Myra Danvers, Anita Gray, Eris Adderly, Livia Bourne , Cassandra Faye

Gold star

As with all anthologies of short stories some characters lack depth and it is difficult to form emotional connections to them. However so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how drawn into this book I have been.

3 stars – Cathedral by Addison Cain
My enjoyment of a story is very much linked to how I feel about a character, my connection to them and the emotions they make me feel. Personally I just didn’t care for the female protagonist in this book – did we ever learn her name? I’m not sure, if we did I don’t recall it. This has left me, despite the story and writing being really good, feeling very *meh* about this.
There is some excellent world building, a fantastic sense of the sinister and in true Addison style one humdinger of a cliff-hanger. In fact that final scene held all the emotion that had been missing, for me, in the rest of the book. It gave the heroine depth, it added that personal element that allowed me to connect with the story.
I’m undecided yet whether I would read the full story, although that ending totally changed the tide.

3.5 stars – Till the End of Time by Zoe Blake
I loved this unusual and compelling take on the Dracula story. The passion between the two protagonists was raw, consuming and depraved. An excellent dark, twisted and gory short story!

4 stars Master of Ceremonies by Alta Hensley
This was a twisty tale with an unusual mix of both darkness and sweetness. I liked the characters and found the plot to be refreshingly different.
For a short story the author managed to pack a very erotic punch and then topped it off with a very twisty teaser of an ending.

5 stars – V is for Vampire by Eris Adderly
Amazing! More please! Now?
This is novella length and is a prequel to a new series Ms Adderly is planning and I’m already in love with November and Leo and very in lust with Rado. Vampire stories aren’t a go-to for me – it was the authors in this anthology that got my interest. However this story has changed my mind. Vamps aren’t the all powerful evil beings you find in most stories, I FLOVED how the author has taken the genre, shaken it up with a big old dollop of seasoning and presented something completely new and captivating.
The anthology is worth buying for this story alone.

5 Stars – Blinding Salvation by Livia Bourne
I loved this wonderful mix of suspense, humour and all things sexy. It’s the opener to a future series by the author but was a complete story within itself. I found myself really falling for Lily and Armand, Livia Bourne imbued her characters with incredible personalities that just draw you in. I can’t wait until she releases more books in this series!

4 stars – Enthralled by Myra Danvers
This story definitely enthralled me, Axton retained a spark of humanity enough to make him likeable. The characters were clearly defined and I liked that this was more about fighting for power between vampires rather than the more common vampire verses humans.

2 stars – The Devil’s Game by Sara Fields
This started so well with a kick-ass heroine and good writing. Then in the second chapter of a very short story there was a glaring continuity error. The heroine is stripped naked (it actually mentions her panties being ripped off and her never having been naked in front of a man before). The anti-hero then removes her panties AGAIN.
After that it became almost one long sex scene, which some people will love but I wanted the story to move on, rather than up and down, in and out! I also dislike stories where characters personalities radically change because of sex. So for me this was a miss.

5 stars – Sweet Ruin by Cassandra Faye (aka Jennifer Bene)
This story just held my attention from the moment it mentioned the Weeping Angels (OMG I still can’t walk past an angel statue without getting shivers!). Nic is so infuriating but also so sexy, whilst Grace was snarky and strong, despite his best efforts to confound her. At times I wanted to shake or slap one, the other or BOTH of them – but in a good bad way. This is a hot and heavy head-spinning story that will leave you wanting more.  We’re talking ghost chilli hot.

I haven’t read Anita Gray’s story yet.

I have a confession to whisper at your ear.

That shadow caressing your body in the dark, that tingle which draws you to arch your spine
… it tempts me to ruin.

You’re beautiful when you sleep.

Everything I long for.

All I ask is a sip, a taste of the life coursing through those delicate veins.

Just one little bite.

And I’ll make you mine… forever.

These tales range from seductively enthralling to soul-slashing horror.
Read on, and you’ll discover every beautiful shade of night.

Mated To The Capo – 4.5 stars

A great read

Sometimes I take a punt on a book. A blurb captures my eye and, despite not knowing the author, I take a chance. Some you win, some you lose – this one felt like a pretty decent success. Whilst it didn’t have quite the finesse say of KF Breene, I still really enjoyed this story and didn’t want to put it down.

There is quite a lot going off in the book, which meant the ‘romance’ took a bit of a back seat at times. However this is something I not only expect but PREFER in a paranormal, sci-fi or paranormal genres. For me contemporary is the place to focus solely on the lovey-dovey, if you aren’t going to make the most of the paranormal setting, why bother? There was also some good solid world building, which I would love to see added to in future books.

Personally I really liked both Zoey and Dominic, yes you could argue they were a little cliched at times, but good writing, a pacy plot, interesting side characters and plenty of humour more than made up for that. I totally bought the intense sexual attraction between Zoey and Dominic, the love part felt a teeny-tiny bit rushed BUT there was a very touching passage where Zoey and Dominic really connected emotionally and that was enough for me to happily go along with things.

There is so much potential for the series to expand and grow in many different directions. The possibilities really are limitless. I feel that this is one of those series’ that will improve with each book and opportunity to learn more about this world and the people within it. I’ve already bought book 2 and can’t wait to find where this adventure leads me!

After an epically bad blind date, Zoey Monroe swore off men forever and got a tattoo that says “love bites.” Maybe she shouldn’t have tempted fate. A very powerful Mafia wolf has bitten her on the ass on a full moon. According to the Moretti Pack, the “moon-bite” means she is now the mate of Dominic Lombardi.
Dominic will follow Zoey to the ends of the earth—no matter how far she runs or how well she hides. Crowding her world and refusing to take no for an answer, he refuses to stop courting her until she becomes his wife.
New dangers suddenly rear their ugly heads and threaten all of Encantado, the supernatural sin city Zoey calls home. When dark magic arrives, will she stop running long enough for her werewolf to claim his bride, or will she find herself fitted with a cement overcoat and sleeping with the fishes?

Mated To The Enforcer – 5 stars

I loved every moment of this book

Mated to the Enforcer is a ‘pass-the-parcel’ of a book – it has so many layers, and as each one is peeled back there is a surprise or twist waiting to spin the story on its axis. My attention wasn’t just held, I was mesmerised from the very first lines through to the last words of the epilogue. Kalinda and Romano are such damaged, fragile yet super strong and simply wonderful protagonists. I absolutely adored them both, I felt their emotions, and oh boy who was peeling onions as I read parts of this?

I almost wished I’d come to this series when it was (almost) complete. I want. NO. I. NEED. The next book NOW! I love this world, I love the politics, the intrigue, the funny, sexy and sometimes plain annoying characters and I love the exciting, jam-packed with action plots. There isn’t a single thing I would change in the book. These are SO much more than just a shifter book. They are a suspense, adventure, paranormal, magical, intrigue, emotion, chemistry and romance packed smorgasbord of goodness.

The lions want to kill her … and then it gets worse …
Staying under the radar of the Mage Society’s Trinity Council hasn’t been much of an issue for bakery owner Kalinda Thorton, but when her supposedly weak magical powers start causing afternoon delights, she knows she’s in trouble. Add in one dangerously alluring wolf who says he wants to eat more than just her confections and life in Encantado, Nevada, has gone from enchanted to cursed in one afternoon.

He’ll huff and puff and keep his mate safe …
Kalinda belongs to the big bad wolf—Romano Moretti. He’ll stop at nothing to protect his mate, even if she doesn’t yet know they belong together. But clashing with the Trinity Council and a pride of lion shifters at the same time is a lot of work for one wolf, and he might have bitten off more than he can chew.

Kalinda is nobody’s witch …
Screw the Council, screw the lions, and most especially screw Romano’s scorching touch and fierce protection. She’ll handle things on her own even if it kills her, except Romano’s sizzling embrace makes her yearn for things she’s never thought she wanted. She’s beginning to wonder if a big bad wolf is exactly the kind of ally she needs, in more ways than one.

With the fate of the town at stake, Kalinda will need to trust someone … or everyone is doomed.

PAVO (Dragon King Book #1) by S Cinders

An exciting new spin off in the Lycan Mating Games world

This particular book can be read stand alone without having read the other ‘Lycan’ books. There is no character cross-over and very little reference to the previous books either. Whether future books will need you to have read the other 3 I wouldn’t like to say.

I very much enjoyed Zoe and Cane’s story, which is fairly low angst, they fight their battles together rather than against each other. It’s a very hot, insta-lust story, leading to a fairly insta-love situation. Whilst I’m not a huge fan of these in contemporary romances, in a paranormal/fantasy romance I’m much less picky. The chemistry between Cane and Zoe is scorching hot – this is one sexy and erotic read. There is spanking so if a dominant man spanking/disciplining a submissive female is likely to offend you this probably isn’t the book for you.

We get the start of Ava and Titus’ story (I very much hope we will be seeing more of them in the next book!) and also met some other fascinating and intriguing characters. There are some good world building elements in this, I really liked the whole Norse mythology aspect.

Would I like more depth in the books? Yes, I love a book that takes me on a journey both emotionally and with it’s story. One where we see the characters grow and develop, revealing hidden depths. However sometimes all you want/need is a light read that you can get absorbed by and complete easily without too much stress or anxiety. This is just such a read. There is complexity in the plot, plenty of heat, good twists and some very easy to like characters. I also enjoyed the pop culture Marvel references!

S Cinders has an unerring ability to write an engaging and fun story that has plenty of surprises too.

” Let’s just say that the other realms have been reminded of our presence. Take the message to the wolves that the dragons are coming.”

In the generations since they came to Earth, they have forgotten their true beginnings. There are said to only be five realms that are connected to ours: Earth, Pavo, Fae, Asgard, and the Shadow Lands.

This is a story about Pavo, the dragon realm, and the four dominant Dragon Kings who rule there. For years there has been a liaison between the realms to supply the lusty dragons with sensual companionship. Zoe, a voluptuous librarian, accidentally stumbles upon the earthly portal and is transported to Pavo. Upon first glance of her beauty, Cane knows that he must have her in his bed – no matter the cost. Zoe finds herself drawn to the alpha dragon king and his fiery temperament. But a dragon could never mate with a human – could he?

Meanwhile, a sinister evil far greater than anything they have yet faced is coming for their kind. Thankfully, they have allies: wild, sensual creatures with scales and wings. They are ancient beasts that have sworn to protect the five realms.

Publisher’s Note: This action-packed, steamy sci-fi romance contains elements of power exchange.

The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant book #3 (Stand Alone) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

4.5 stars – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ✨

This story has more twists than a pretzel….

… and boy is it amazing fun. Whilst technically part of an ongoing series this could be read as a stand alone, since the author fills in any backstory that is needed. However I do think reading all 3 books will result in the best reading experience. These books are a wonderfully, zany smoosh up of paranormal, adventure, romance, suspense, humour and general weirdness. It’s a cozy mystery taking one heck of an LSD trip.

“What the devil is a machoron?”
“You. A macho moron.”

Michael and Lula

Michael continues to bemuse with his strange mixed up personality. Sometimes geek, other times sexist caveman and always hopeless male.

The hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up, looking for a fight. Yes, even my hairs are fighters. I am quite manly like that.

His life continues to be ruled by his librarian (I had a feeling there was more to her than we knew) and his small blue electric car.

“Oh, you’re such a pussy.”
“Am not.” I am the Executioner. Or was. I fear nothing except tiny blue cars.”

I felt we got to know Marian a lot more in this book, and I definitely liked what I saw. So did Michael, resulting in some very tented pants! We also get to not only see more of Nice, Lula and Viviana but also learn some startling truths about them. Trying to solve the mysteries in this is like trying to solve one of those ball-in-the-hole dexterity puzzles. You can get a couple of the pieces in place but then some catastrophe occurs and you have to start again.

Talking of Nice, that man (sorry vampire) is just too funny for words. He is so well described, so perfectly crafted I can clearly picture, and hear, him. I sort of picture a camp young Iggy Pop! I loved the role he played in this book, including the spanner in the works at the end! (You’re not going to want to miss THAT twist!)

The crotch of his pants is so tight we can see everything. Two golf balls and a flashlight.

I was really pleased that the ongoing backstory was neatly tied up in this book, though how MJP kept all those various strands and loops in order left me in awe. The plot is breathtaking, intriguing, amusing, emotional and steamy (yay!), goodness knows how she managed to dream it all up! The story ends with a fairly mild cliff-hanger, I can’t wait to see what troubles befall Michael next. I will definitely be continuing with this series, the characters are just too good to give up!

“What were you saying about men being wrong all the time?”
She shrugs. “Even a broken clock is right twice in a day.”

Genre: Paranormal humorous MYSTERY, with romantic elements

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes an uncomfortably hilarious Mystery with a heaping help of sexual frustration, THE LIBRARIAN’S VAMPIRE ASSISTANT, Book Three. (Yep! It’s a STAND-ALONE. But why not read them all because…fun!)

Michael Vanderhorst is not your usual vampire. For starters, he works in a library, is in love with Miriam, his hot nerdy human boss who has no clue what he is, and he looks like a college student.

In reality, Michael is an ancient deadly vampire, an ex-assassin, and is currently the de facto king of his kind ever since their ruling party disappeared. To where? He doesn’t know, but if he wants his life back, he’ll have to find out. (Mystery!) Especially because a civil war is brewing, and being king makes his librarian a mark for his enemies. She is, after all, his biggest weakness.

With a global uprising about to explode, Michael must give her the protection of his army. Only one problem: She must become his queen first. But every attempt he makes to tell her the truth is met with extreme hostility. “Vampires aren’t real. That’s crazy talk, Michael!” Clearly, the topic frightens her.

With time running out and her life on the line, Michael is left with one option: Marry her. Without her knowing.

Can he pull it off? And what will happen when the fight comes to their door?

HER DARK LEGION by Pippa DaCosta

HER DARK LEGION is the fifth and final book of The Messenger Chronicles. It is a slow burn, mid heat, fantasy/sci-fi blended reverse harem. It is written by the hugely talented Pippa DaCosta and is a not-to-be-missed series. Jam packed with hot, moody, males, a snarky AI in a human shell and one kick-ass heroine you will be spellbound from the first line to the last.

Discovery is worthless without the journey.

This book took me several days to read, it wasn’t because I wasn’t loving every heartbreaking and soul crushing moment of it. It wasn’t because it didn’t have me riveted by it’s amazing plot, outstanding world building and unparalleled characters. It was quite simply that I wasn’t ready, and indeed am still not ready to let go of this world and say goodbye to Kesh, Sota, Kellee, Talon, Sirius and even Eledan. The conclusion to what has been an epic tale was full of action, adventure, tragedy, manipulation and surprises.

I wanted to cry in her {Hulia’s} arms, but I somehow pushed the swell of emotion down.

KESH, Her Dark Legion

Well Kesh, at that point you did better than me because I spent a good half of this book either finding a quiet corner to sob in or with tears streaming down my face. The emotion from each and every main character tore me apart. Again. And again. And again. I have tears welling in my eyes even now, and feel a strange mixture of both joy and sadness.

I wanted to hear his voice, one last time. I wanted to feel his touch on my face and his kiss on my lips. and I never would.

With lines like that how HOW am I meant to remain an in-charge capable adult woman? Impossible! Every single time it left me a snivelling mess. This book was everything I wanted and more. So much more. A whole universe full of stars could not shine as brightly as this story, nor would be able to bear adequate witness to do this book justice.

And those guys of Kesh’s, wow did they pull out all the stops in this concluding book. There was absolutely no doubt about the depth of their feelings for her. Each of them, in their own way, worships the very ground she walks on, loves her to the stars and back and would do anything within their power for her.

“It’s all right.” His knuckles brushed my cheek, then his fingers stroked my hair, setting it right, like he needed everything to be in it’s place.
Nothing was
all right. I was so tired of the pain, the endless battle.
His lips brushed my forehead. “He took what he thought was most precious to me…” Talen’s warm fingers captured my chin, his gaze fierce. “He was wrong.”

“Where’s your star, Kellee?”
“Right here, in my arms.”
The words broke me open, exposing everything I was and had been.

I mean, talk about *swoon*. But then we had the reminders that all these men were immortal whilst Kesh, with a piece of the Pole Star inside her, was very much mortal. A fact that came very close to breaking those men on more than one occasion.

These impossible males would not be mine forever, but while I had them captured in my mortal hands, I’d love them wholly and completely. No matter what happened after, we would have lived and loved. It would be enough. It had to be enough.

I rarely felt the passage of time so keenly as when I was with her. Everything in me ached to pull her back, to capture her light and savor it before she burned out.

Thankfully there were some wonderful moments of banter and humour to lift the spirits. These usually involved Sota and Kellee, though it wasn’t exclusively their gig. And they just served to make the poignant moments even more touching.

“You’re going to need a bodyguard who can kick fae and human ass with style and without prejudice.”
“That role’s taken, Sparky.” Kellee stretched his claws.
style, vakaru. You look like someone’s rabid hound.”

His gun ports smoked. His tek eye glowed, but his mouth wore a modest smile.
“He was about to launch into a villainous monologue and ain’t nobody got time for that.”

SOTA, Her Dark Legion

Now whilst I’ve fallen in love with all the main characters, even going so far as to have a soft spot for the much misunderstood (IMO) Eledan, my favourite has always been Marshall Kellee. It’s just something about his wild west lawman ways and his dark good looks.

“Oh really?” he drawled in that smooth voice he liked to unleash on unsuspecting females.

KELLEE, Her Dark Legion

Yep, that’s the guy I’m talking about. The one who only needs to quirk an eyebrow to have the panties of all females in a 20 mile radius melting. Not just the females either! We really got to see all the true depths and many facets of Kellee in Her Dark Legion.

For the first time since I’d met him, his expression was open and raw, letting me see everything on his face.
Marshall Kellee was afraid.
For Me.

The weight behind the blow was enough to topple him. His head struck the banister on the way down, knocking him out cold. Now we had ourselves cargo that didn’t argue.
“That was unnecessary,” Talen remarked.
“Probably,” I cracked my knuckles. “But it felt real good.”

Throughout all the trials and tribulations, intrigue, schemes and manipulations, Kesh continued to battle her way towards the final showdown. Weighed down with the expectations of Fairie herself, the hopes of the saru, the fears of her males, Kesh fought with everything she had. Gave everything she had, prepared to sacrifice everything for those she loved.

Wrapping him in my arms, I held him close and listened to the beat of his immortal fae-heart, to the rhythm of his breathing, committing his soft hardness to memory. Maybe he’s listen to my heart, and hear my breathing, and he’s remember me. Perhaps, in his memories, I could live forever.

Events had led us right here, either by fate or by Eledan. Harlow’s fall, Arcon’s rise, the Game of Lies, Hapters’s dark fae, and Valand’s dead… Whatever the source, there was no escaping what would come next.

I’ve used far too many quotes and I just don’t care. I could have chosen a hundred more. There are just so many lines that punched me in the gut and tore my insides apart. These are ones that I just couldn’t leave out.

I told myself I wouldn’t cry.
And I’d failed within seconds.
This was what he’d wanted. He’d chosen this. I would respect that. I didn’t own him. I didn’t own any of them. They’d always been free to follow me, but Talen …. I’d loved his honest, gentle heart and kind words.
He’d encouraged me when I was low. He’d loved me when I thought I wasn’t worthy. He’d never hurt me and never would. Talen was a better person than any of us.

His arm looped around my back and pulled me in so there was nothing between us. His warmth enveloped me. There was no safer place in all four realms.

I was so many things to so many people, and this war needed me to be those things to end it. You must survive yourself to unlock your truth.

And to finish, a quote that sums up the current state of my heart.

I almost couldn’t speak, and when I did, the words were just a whisper.
“It felt like goodbye.”

“I’ve come too far to surrender now…”

Eledan’s nightmare has been unleashed upon the worlds and with Oberon gone, only the messenger crew stand in its way.

Kellee, Talen, Sirius, Sota, and Kesh. Together, they are stronger, but there are forces on Faerie who do not want the worlds saved, forces that would see the Messenger and her crew torn apart.

Queen to Faerie’s new king, Messenger and more to the saru, lover to some and a weapon to others, but who is Kesh Lasota really? A guiding light or an unwitting puppet?

Answers are coming.

The time for lies has passed.

And Kesh will soon learn some battles can’t be won alone.

Three men cursed to be ravens; one woman trapped in her swan form.
Can they save each other before it’s too late?
Read Her Raven Mates by Aria Adams and you can find out how. It’s AVAILABLE NOW!!

4.25 Stars – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

(From the Fated Mates Anthology)

This was a very unexpected but pleasant surprise by Aria Adams. Firstly it’s not as dark or dubious in consent as I’ve become used to and secondly it’s a RH that actually has an interesting and well written plot. There is one ‘dubious’ scene, involving an incorporeal demon and probing tentacles, other than that this is actually much tamer than Aria’s usual work (NOT a criticism just an observation!)

I really loved Eileen’s character, whilst she could be naive, gullible and, perhaps, a little foolhardy it all fitted well with how isolated her life had been, up to that point. Nor did those qualities make her annoying, in fact I was totally behind our girl 100% of the way.

The guys I did find a little interchangeable. I liked that Aria didn’t go for the cliched ‘sweet one’, ‘alpha one’ and ‘kinky one’ BUT I would have liked just a little more delineation between their characters. There were some differences, I personally wanted just a bit more. That said, these are 3 brothers who live together, and it’s not unusual for siblings to have similar personalities. I also wouldn’t have wanted it to be at the expense of the plot either. Stories in anthologies often have a word limit so I can see how that would come into play too.

It’s on the novella/novel border so was easily read in one (quite late to bed) evening. I read it in one go quite simply because I didn’t want to stop or put it down. What a twisty tale full of intrigue! I would love to see Aria expand this story at some point in the future – I want to know so much more about this world and it’s inhabitants!

About Aria Adams
Aria is an author of dark erotic romance that dances on the boundary between horror and romance. Her heroes are not always immediately obvious, and neither are the villains. Her books often have elements of horror, and the characters at the end of a story are forever changed by the events that befell them. But she always makes sure there’s a happy ending, even if the characters have to work for it.
Aria also writes the warm fuzzy romance stuff as Katie Douglas, where she has had USA Today and multiple number 1 bestselling books in the US and worldwide.

Book Review · Paranormal · YA

I recently read both books number 4 and 5, and since the final book concluded the series I decided to post my reviews for all five instalments.

My overall rating for the series is 4 stars, which equates to; I really enjoyed this book, I might not read it again but I would definitely recommend it to others.

A young adult paranormal urban fantasy blend, with well written characters and a captivating story line.

Having read and enjoyed The Statues Trilogy I knew I enjoyed this author’s work. I was also very intrigued by the blurb for the book.

I love stories where the fae/immortals/gods are walking around on Earth, with most humans totally unaware of the truth. I really enjoyed how the author steadily world builds in this book, introducing new characters and information in a way that neither overwhelms nor gives you too little to work with. This book was very much scene setting for the rest of the story, we spent a lot of time discovering some unexpected truths, both about Everly but also about Veil Rock.

Written in first person and completely from Everly’s point of view we, as the reader, quickly get to know this not quite girl but not yet woman really well. There are quite a few other characters to also keep track of, some of these are clearly friends, some very much enemies, whilst others could be either. The people she can trust don’t know enough to really help her, whilst those who know everything are the very ones who might want to cause her harm.

I’m was intrigued by the whole story and determined then and there that I would be continuing with it.

I would have sworn I was just a normal girl. But, I was wrong. And it could cost me my life.

When I’m sent to finish my last semester of high school in the peculiar town of Veil Rock, I thought that would be punishment enough. But when mysterious vampires, shifters, and witches come to seek me out, there’s no escaping the clutches of this new hell.

They believe I am powerful enough to be their ultimate sacrifice to break a binding curse, and they will stop at nothing until they claim me as their own.

I laughed at the absurd idea until unexplained and magical things began to happen to me. Now, unable to gain control of my newfound powers, I’m forced to rely on the very ones who plan to sacrifice me to keep their immortality.

As my world breaks apart into a thousand pieces, it’s flight or fight. Since I’m not one to run away, the only thing left to do is decide who I can trust and who is manipulating me as I try to unearth ancient secrets that may save my life.

My name is Everly Shade, and I’m not ready to die.

*Echoes to Ashes is the first in this YA paranormal mystery series. Expect romance, magic, and twisting plots that will have you guessing to the very last book.*

The story gets better and better

Ashes and Shadows picks up pretty much where book #1 ended, and continues the story of magic, mystery and mayhem. It continues to be written first person and just from Everly’s pov.

Ainsley Shay spins excellent magical tales but in a modern day setting, merging the two worlds into one massively entertaining read.

Everly is discovering more and more things, both about herself and about the immortal beings who are so very interested in her. There are a few new people to meet in this book, along with some surprising discoveries to be made and increasing threats to face.

I did find that I was having to remind myself that Everly is only a teenager, particularly at those times when she seemed very trusting of the wrong people. Personally I wouldn’t trust any of them, but I guess in order to get the answers she needs, Everly has to trust someone.

The writing is executed well, making the story easy to follow and understand. The pace was nicely balanced, holding your attention without moving too quickly, and there were plenty of twists and turns in the plot. Characters clearly have their own motivations, only revealing information to Everly when it suits them. They often leave her in ignorance and then get offended by her unwitting actions!

I flew through this, devouring each word, page and chapter whilst being totally riveted by the story. I am massively looking forward to reading the final book and discovering the truth hidden behind all the smoke and mirrors that the immortals dazzle our heroine with.

Magic paints a target on Everly’s back, and her hunters won’t stop until she belongs to them…

As Everly attempts to control her powers, everything else in Veil Rock comes unhinged. Now, there’s a new a gift over-riding all of her senses, and its insatiable need to be fed drowns out everything else.

There’s only one person who can help her overcome the magic’s hunger. He’s more than happy to oblige… but he’s the last person Everly wants to turn to. Especially about this.

But, she may be left with no other choice as more supernaturals begin to realize how unique her powers are. The white witches are the only ones who know exactly what Everly is capable of, and they will do whatever it takes to keep that secret sacred.

Even if that means Everly’s death.

The CW’s Supernatural collides with LJ Smith’s Vampire Diaries in the thrilling series of The Immortal Trials.

I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed third instalment of The Immortal Trials.

We’re half way through the story now and whilst there are still a lot of unknowns and secrets galore, I did feel as though plot strands were starting to tie together. Whilst I still have NO idea of how the story will progress, strangely enough I did feel as though we made significant headway in this book and am now beginning to build a much clearer picture in my head.

It might just be me but this felt as though it had better pace and flow than book 2. That’s not to suggest book 2 was a bad read, rather that this is an even better one! We don’t see as much of Cameron, Mina and Raiden in this one, though there are quite a few other characters to meet and place into the story. There are also some surprises and plot twists added into the mix.

In the second half of the book Everly eventually felt like she was taking charge of events. I do like that she acts like a girl of 17 and not as though she were an adult, but time’s a ticking and there are A LOT of powerful people plotting her demise! I loved how the story progressed and can’t wait to see where the next book will take us.

Time is running out, and there’s no room left for mistakes.

The date of the ritual has been decided, and Everly has thirty-five days until she becomes the immortal’s sacrifice.

When shocking news comes in the way a sacred one, her entire world shifts. Everything she’s ever known may have been a lie.

But, Everly’s hope blossoms when she discovers a vital piece to the deadly mystery she’s trapped in. She must find a way to endure the never-ending horrors that continue to haunt her.

Especially if she plans to survive.

Wow, things are certainly hotting up for Everly.

There was so much happening in this penultimate book that my head was left spinning. The pacing was perfect, holding me riveted from start to finish and I found myself finishing the story before I realised I was anywhere near the end.

Everly finally seems to be making headway in her struggles with both the immortals and The White Ones. In fact there are so many immortals in this story that it can be difficult to keep track of who is who. Thankfully the author drops gentle reminders into the story to aid with this.

The story flowed really well, the writing is engaging and the characters inspire genuine emotion, both positive and negative. I love how we can never be quite sure of who to trust and sorting truth from lies and subterfuge has my mind imagining all sorts of ways the story may progress.

I’m jumping straight into reading the final book right now. I can’t wait to find out how the amazing adventure draws to a conclusion. Not to mention finding answers to all those questions still flying around my brain!

The Creator of all immortals has left his lair.

His reason for paying a visit to Veil Rock is just… the need to know if Everly Shade is indeed the one creation that was never meant to be born. Knowing that she could ruin everything he has ever created, he must see to it that she is dealt with before the Hunter’s Moon.

Everly can no more prepare for the warlock’s arrival than if she was going to Hell itself. Still in possession of the grimoire, she searches through powerful spells she hopes will keep her alive long enough to save the ones she loves.

As her power to wield magic intensifies, she can no longer hide in the shadows. When the White Ones come for her, the only protection from their mental assaults is her own power. They don’t fight fair, the fight for what’s theirs. But, Everly belongs to no one.

Through her growing strength, Everly refuses to let murder, blood lust, or ancient magic keep her from what’s rightfully hers, the freedom to live.

A thrilling conclusion to a wonderful series.

One of my favourite things about this series has been seeing how Everly has grown and matured throughout the story.  Curse to Ruin showcased this aspect really well, she still felt like the same person but she was making more reasoned decisions. The plot is incredibly busy but the pace allows you to follow it quite easily. There were so many unexpected twists and turns too, you just couldn’t predict what would happen next!

The writing, as always, was of a high standard with a flowing and easy to read style. I found myself flying through the book, quite simply it held my attention from start to finish, even when I wasn’t able to be reading, it was still in my thoughts. I adored the very sweet romantic element that we saw in this book, it wasn’t excessive but it just added something special IMO.

There were only two aspects of the book that could have been even better for me. Personally I would have liked Everly’s parents to have a larger role in this book, their inclusion almost felt pointless. I also felt the ‘sacrifice’ scene was rather rushed, the resolution felt too quick and easy. However this is a YA book when all is said and done, so a violent battle scene would have been inappropriate.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and would highly recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal stories and YA adventures. The series is suitable for teens through to adults, it has a very mild amount of romance.

Embracing death may be the only way to survive.

Trapped in her own body, Everly has been put under a spell to imitate death. With only ten days until the Hunter’s Moon, Dragan is now her eyes and ears to ensure she comes out of it alive. With both, the White Ones and his own immortal family, breathing threats and curses in their direction, Dragan turns to an unlikely source for help.

In the middle of the ocean, at Veil Rock, the ritual is set. Every immortal is on edge waiting to see if their curse will finally be lifted. Their hope falters when Saphira shows up to claim her daughter, Everly, to use her for the only thing she was created to do… abolish the immortals who never should have been.

When Everly is viciously ripped out of her death-like embrace, she’ll be forced to choose which side she’s willing to die for.

LUCY (Virgin Vampire #3) by S Cinders

4 Stars – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

These books are just getting better and better!

Whilst Lucy could be read as a stand alone, there is a wonderful overarching story line that runs through out the series. I would recommend reading the previous two books first, as that would ensure you get the best reading experience possible. The books are fast paced, steamy, RH/menage, vampire romances with a side order of humour and a garnish of adventure.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lucy, Marcus and Henry’s story, it provided a very fun and pleasant afternoon’s reading. This trio have one heck of a lot of chemistry that will really heat up your e-reader. This is perfectly balanced by an action-packed, adventure filled plot. The length of the book means that we don’t get a massive amount of depth to the characters BUT it really doesn’t matter. They are still very likeable and totally draw you into the story.

This is a set of books I am only to happy to recommend, particularly if you enjoy NA paranormal romance. I really do love the series and can’t wait for Lola’s book.

Raised in the caves, Lucy was taken as a baby and hidden away from those that massacred her family.

But due to a spell that went wrong, she learns that she not only has two sisters, but she is a twin.

Now Lucy has to decide if she wants to fight in a war that was not of her choosing.

Not only that, but she has growing feelings for Henry. Which makes life terribly uncomfortable when she’s already in love with Marcus, Henry’s brother.

This is the third instalment of the Virgin Vampire series. Each story features a different sister’s journey on her way to love.

ELLA (Lycan Mating Games #3) by S Cinders

4 STARS – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

The Lycan Mating Games books are set in a world where paranormal beings secretly live amongst humans. Ella is the third book in this interlinked series.

Ella is one action packed, roller coaster of a conclusion to Ella and James’ story.

Full of steam, adventure, mystery and peril this book had me gripped from start to finish.  Ella needs to be read after James, (Book 2 of the Lycan Mating Games). Both are enhanced by reading the first book, Finn, a book that is very much worth reading in it’s own right too.

Whilst the story mainly focuses on James and Ella, we do also get chapters from Clarence and Jesse’s point of views too. The book is first person, but very clear labelling of chapters makes it easy to keep track of viewpoints. I also found that it helped me to really get an understanding of the different characters, along with their motivations and feelings.

The story flows smoothly, S Cinders has a very easy to read style of writing that captures your imagination and easily holds your attention. Her characters are very easy to like and, magical abilities notwithstanding, they are also believable in their emotions and reactions.

Whilst this book completed James and Ella’s part of the story, there were a few mysteries thrown in towards the end that have already hooked me into wanting to read the next book. This is a series I would recommend to those who love steaming hot paranormal/shifter romances and those who enjoy paranormal adventure stories. The heat levels and language do make this an adult read.

In the blink of an eye, James’ world turned upside down. Now he must travel into the past to find Jessie, who has disturbed the fabric of time, and put everything back to rights. But he won’t be going alone. With Ella at his side, he will bargain with the Fairy Court, meet the family members they never knew existed, and walk the halls of the infamous academy where the Lycan Mating Games began.

Can they, once and for all, put the USLUF behind them? Or is this only the beginning?Welcome to Lycan Mating Games 3: Ella.

Publisher’s Note: This steamy sci-fi action romance contains very graphic scenes. If this is offensive to you, please do not read it.

“Your mother and I have decided that it is high time you married. We need to know that the succession to the throne is secure.”
I choked on my orange juice, trying not to gape at my father, Oberon, the King of the Fae.
I wiped my mouth with a napkin. “You can’t be serious.”
My mother, Titania, raised a brow. “We have allowed you to run wild for far too long. It has brought you into a touch of melancholy that I cannot like.”
My heart began to thump. “I am not ready for marriage!”
“You have been in your adult years for centuries, Jessie,” Oberon admonished. “It’s not as if you would be a child bride.”
Titania frowned. “You have been with us for nearly a month now, and all you’ve done is mope about the castle. It is high time you did something with your life and stopped moping over that Lycan.”

Five Fun Facts

  1. When I first started writing Lycan it was on the Radish app. I had no idea that it would garner over 400k reads on that app alone.
  2. Mike was one of my least favorite characters at first. I had to dig deep to see why he acted so cocky and rude. I suppose with Dr. Rinwald as a step-father, he had plenty of internal angst.
  3. Shelly seems to be have left out from finding her one and only, but here is a little secret… her time is coming.
  4. Lycan’s didn’t use to age. That is something that only started happening in recent years.
  5. There are seven planned books in the series, possibly more!
