Teddy’s Boys

Bad Boys of Bevington #1

by E.J. Frost

Had the book not had EJ Frost’s name on it I would never have picked it up. I don’t usually care for NA, academy or bully romances and this one features all three of those tropes. However I do love this author’s writing, especially her ability to create multifaceted characters and portray credible emotions.

Whilst the romantic relationships feature too heavily for this to be considered UF, there is so much more depth and quality in the story than is found in the vast majority of PNR. The book is written entirely from Teddy (Theodora’s) point of view and there were times I would have liked to have heard Gabe and Charlie’s thoughts, just to allow me to connect with them that little bit more. However it’s always a balancing act with RH as too many voices can overwhelm the reader, resulting in a disconnection.

The are several different plot lines running through the book, which I will mention now ends on a mean cliff-hanger. We have Teddy’s attraction to all three guys, her troubles with her family, the murder of a student and Darwin’s interferences/manipulations in Gabe and Teddy’s lives. Speaking of Darwin, he very clearly has huge issues and, even though he doesn’t seemingly deserve it, I do feel quite sorry for him. I guess it’s because so often there is the mean guy who turns out to be very misunderstood and quite a sweetheart underneath it all. I’m hoping there is a good and genuine reason behind all his alphaholery because boy does he need a good slapping if there isn’t!

In Summary –
If I could have added a little extra something to the story it would have been a little more detail about the existence of magic, did everyone have it and if not how it fitted into the “non-magical” world.

This book was dead good, the absolute dog’s bollocks and it’s left me right gagging for the next one. 😉

REVIEW – DD/lg Romance // Baby Her by Markie Morelli

Finn’s Plan Book 3:
Baby Her
by Markie Morelli

There is so much I want to say about this final book, and all of it positive.  Before I launch into it I do need to say that whilst the author gives some back story, so that you might be able to read this stand alone, but for the best reading experience I do massively recommend reading the books in order.

Despite some possible misgivings whilst reading this, ALL of those potential concerns were examined and dealt with during the course of the story.  At times I expected this to proceed along some very standard (and what to me would have been disappointing) lines, instead it actually took a surprisingly pleasant and very satisfying path.  In fact throughout the series the author has continually amazed me with how each character has grown, adapted and evolved.  I like that whilst the age play aspect is central to the book, there is still plenty of other story to round out the plot.

There was so much potential for Finn to have overwhelmed Trisha with his dominance and power.  She wasn’t “in the scene” and had no experience in domestic discipline or BDSM when she met Finn.  He had already decided he wanted a wife who would also be “his little girl” – purely in an age-play way, not a creepy way.  I’ve read too many books where the inexperienced, naïve, young woman is overwhelmed by the older, dominant male.  Where she as swept into a power exchange and does all the giving whilst he does all the taking.  I dislike those intensely so appreciated that whilst Finn never apologised to Trisha when he expected too much, he did make mental adjustments to ensure not going too far in the future.

The fact that Finn and Trisha self-reflected both on their relationship and on their own feelings was another big positive of the book.  They examined what did and didn’t work along with the why, not in overly tedious detail but through little thoughts, words and actions.  It was very refreshing to see genuine compromise from both characters, to read a power exchange story where they both gave a little on their own desires, to secure mutual happiness.   By the end of the story I genuinely felt that this was a relationship which, in real life, would survive the test of time.

This trilogy has managed to constantly surprise me because whilst it is about a very rich man finding, marrying and enjoying DD/lg play with a woman, it is also so very much more than that. I found myself both happy and satisfied with the ending and am very happy to recommend the series.

New Adult Erotic Romance

Billionaire Finley Tremont has it all planned. He’ll find the perfect girl, marry her and they’ll live happily ever after, all while he explores his passionate desire to be a Daddy Dom.
Step by step he moves forward, creating the perfect nursery, falling in love with the adorable Trisha, and convincing her to marry him.  Trish even agrees to indulge the man she loves and let Finn try to be her daddy/husband, a stunning concession he was never certain of receiving.  He’s carefully researched every available source for information and guidance on the proper care and discipline of a little, spoken with other Daddy Doms, and is convinced he’s ready to take on this exciting and challenging new role.
On top of the world, Finn is delighted, assuring himself it would be clear sailing from here on out.  His bride is the perfect combination of naive and naughty. What could possibly go wrong at this point? Only everything!
It seems his charming little bride has some ideas of her own and despite his carefully laid out plans’ things are about to get complicated as the babying begins. Apparently, Finn is not quite as prepared as he imagined and Trisha is not as compliant as she seemed.  Their new dynamic is going to take some work if they want to merge their desires and personalities into a lasting and loving marriage.

// REVIEW \\ Find Her by Markie Morelli

Finn’s Plan – Book One:
Find Her
by Markie Morelli

Having read Cheri’s Rules I was intrigued to read Find Her (Finn’s Book #1), which is the first part of a trilogy. I found the story really easy to read and definitely enjoyed it. It’s a fairly low steam, slow burn, though I think that may well change in following books, which I will definitely be reading.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Trish grows as a character. I didn’t feel like I really got to know the “inner” her but am hoping that we will see her develop and find her voice in future books. At first I thought she was a little weak, almost a doormat, but then I realised that actually she was still quite young and was simply overwhelmed by Finn’s personality. Bulldozed might be a more apt description.

Speaking of Finn, he knew very much what he wanted and went all out to attain it. I do have reservations that he is more in love with the idea of his “perfect wife” than he is with Trish herself. There were constant internal thoughts on how he would guide her, mould her, change her until she became his ideal woman. At times it felt as though he was controlling to the point of overbearing. However just as I’d reach that point, he would then do or say something to not only redeem himself but make me swing the other way and cheerlead for him.

Finn did want to ensure any decisions and actions were consensual and he clearly cared very deeply for Trish, so he is a hero I can get behind. Even though he is dearly hoping that Trish will be both his wife and his little girl, he was willing to accept her choice in the matter. Whilst normally I’d have an issue that he hadn’t been honest with Trish about his ultimate desires, he is willing to accept if she says no to certain things, so I’m giving him a pass this time. He does seem to listen to Trish, helping her work through some very conflicted feelings, and I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Genre- Age Play Erotic Romance

“You can’t buy me, Finn,” she replied. “Money doesn’t mean that much to me. I’ll admit I’m attracted to you, but don’t try to ‘make me’ do anything. I may be small and easy to get along with, but I can be feisty as well. And stubborn,” she added, thoughtfully.
“I’m counting on that,” he answered cryptically.

Billionaire Finley Tremont is a man of action and he has plans, big plans for his new bride, Trisha. He wants more than a traditional marriage, much more. Putting on the brakes will be difficult for him, but that’s exactly what he needs to do. Each step must by measured, designed to make her crave the same things he does. He adores her, aches for her, and now that she’s agreed to become his wife, Finn intends to take Trisha into a world he’s only dreamed about.
As a brilliant CEO, Finn is used to overcoming obstacles to get what he wants, and he wants to be her husband and daddy. Let her be naughty and rebellious if she wants to; he hungers for the challenge and a chance to prove that he is more than master enough. In the end, he’s going to win her undying love.

Review //\\ Capturing Kate

Capturing Kate by Alexis Alvarez

This is a pleasant enough read where the punishments were consensual. The first one skated the line of dub-con but I gave it a pass as I felt that Kate didn’t really put up much of a fight to avoid it.

Whilst the book is written third person, the perspective is always Kate’s, so I did feel as though I got to know her more than I did Sloan. I liked them both, even though Kate’s behaviour was described in a very childish way a couple of times. I’m not sure if the author was trying to convey just how emotionally distressed and ‘off-kilter’ Kate felt but it didn’t quite work when she described her stamping her feet etc. Maybe it was to show she was a brat? shrug

The story was entertaining, the plot was engaging and the pace kept things moving forward. It didn’t have the depth that I need to give a 4 or 5 star rating, but it isn’t a bad book either. It’s a nice, low-angst, ‘spanking’ romantic suspense that fills a couple of hours

Title – Capturing Kate
Author – Alexis Alvarez
Genre – BDSM Romantic Suspense

Sparks fly when a feisty reporter and a dominant undercover FBI agent spend a week alone together.
Journalist Kate Klein knows reporting on a powerful businessman’s disregard for the safety of the local water supply was a dangerous assignment, but she is nonetheless shocked when she is taken captive, bound, and brought to a remote cabin.
Her gruff yet undeniably handsome captor turns out to be a man named Sloan Masters who claims he is an undercover FBI agent investigating the same organization she has been trying to expose. Kate is unsure whether Sloan can be trusted, but he makes it clear that he plans to do whatever is necessary to protect her, whether she likes it or not. If keeping her safe requires taking her over his knee for a stern punishment to ensure her obedience, then so be it.
When Kate keeps some critical information from Sloan, a long, hard spanking on her bare bottom quickly proves that his warning was not a bluff. To her surprise, however, the painful, embarrassing chastisement leaves Kate not only promising to be good but also yearning for Sloan to take her in his arms and claim her thoroughly.
Sloan’s skilled, dominant lovemaking is unlike anything Kate has ever experienced before, and she finds her desire for him growing more intense by the hour, but she cannot help wondering if she is just a means to an end for him. When something goes terribly wrong and the entire investigation is put in jeopardy, can Sloan prove to Kate that she belongs to him no matter what?

Review //\\ His Ranch, His Rules

His Ranch, His Rules by Shanna Handel

His Ranch, His Rules is an easy to read, low angst, somewhat steamy read. Georgia is a hot mess at the start of the book, and I liked how brave the author was in writing the heroine this way. We saw growth in her character and, with one exception (which I will return to later) I liked how she grew in strength and resilience.

Whilst the hero spanks the heroine for the first time really soon after they first met, it was entirely consensual. However, the book really suffered from a very “tell not show” narrated style of writing, this then impacted on my connection with Brody, since the book is written entirely from Georgia’s point of view. However this is perfect if you’re looking for a light, sexy “beach read” with a side of spanking.

I loved Georgia’s uncompromising attitude when Brody messed up and let her down, especially regarding his lack of trust. Now here is where me exception from earlier comes in. Brody not trusting Georgia was what really upset and hurt her, yet this was never addressed. I felt that Brody didn’t truly earn his forgiveness. However I definitely enjoyed this book – hence the three stars.

Title – His Ranch, His Rules
Author – Shanna Handel
Genre – Erotic Western Romance

Georgia Hamilton has done her best to keep her life together since her boyfriend of four years left her broken-hearted, but if she were being honest, she’d have to admit she isn’t doing great. She’s getting tipsy–if not drunk–more and more often, and now she’s lost both her job and her apartment. So when an old friend sets her up with a position complete with room and board on a ranch run by a man who looks like he stepped out of a cowboy movie, she jumps at the chance.
But there’s a catch, of course. Brody Jenkins is an old-fashioned man who believes in hard work, clean living, and firm-handed discipline. That means no drinking, and when she’s caught with a bottle of alcohol, Georgia soon finds herself sobbing and promising to be good as she is very soundly spanked and then pouring her heart out as she is gently held in Brody’s strong arms.

Brody’s stern correction leaves Georgia blushing and sore yet deeply aroused, and she cannot help longing for him to make her his. Once he does, however, she soon learns the hard way that naughty girls can just as easily be punished with pleasure more intense than they can stand. But after a terrible misunderstanding creates a rift between them, will Brody prove to be the man Georgia has always needed, or will she end up leaving his ranch and his rules behind forever?
