Review //\\ One Crazy Bite

One Crazy Bite by Cassandra Faye

Even though there are elements of very mild dub-con in One Crazy Bite, overall this is a fast-paced, steamy and most of all fun read. I found myself smiling and giggling repeatedly, along with having to fan myself when the heat level rose! Nic is the kind of fast learner that I wouldn’t mind having between my sheets – and also between somewhere else, given his lickacious skills.

Whilst he was a touch overbearing and full of himself at the beginning, perhaps even a little sinister at times, that was very much a deliberate ploy of the authors. By the end I absolutely adored him, in fact the way he was smitten with Grace was rather cute. I would even go so far as to describe him as a real sweetie. Grace was just a hoot, her internal monologues totally made the book and had me creasing up more than once. I’m totally jealous that Shannon gets to be her best friend, even if she is only a fictional character.

This is one of those books that you can imagine being made into a movie, and it would be one I’d happily watch again and again. I already know the museum scene would be one of my favourites, definitely “eye catching” at the very least!  One Crazy Bite is also one crazy ride with a super sexy vampire and his not hallucinating plehara. It’s a fantastic read and I thoroughly recommend it.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

“If you’re going to get stalked, at least make him hot and immortal.”
It’s always nice to feel wanted, but Grace wasn’t exactly looking for a boyfriend. Plus, getting stalked by a super hot vampire who’s invisible to everyone else just makes you look — and feel — crazy.
Not that her mental health is a high priority for the immortal.
Nic says they’re destined to be together. She’s pretty sure he’s a magical figment of her imagination… but he’s not taking no for an answer. He wants her body, her blood, and to make her his forever.
But does he have the magic wand to make her scream ‘yes?’

This week I’m waiting for a book by Cassandra Faye, the PNR alternative pen name of Jennifer Bene. One Crazy Bite was originally released as a short story in an anthology, but has undergone a rewrite and an extension and is being released on the 17th of August.

I’m not waiting on many books, for once, but I am really looking forward to reading One Crazy Bite by Cassandra Faye, which is the paranormal/fantasy pen name of Jennifer Bene. OCB is a reworking of a short story that first appeared in Bite Me, an anthology that is no longer available. However the first chapter had been obliterated and replaced with five, yes FIVE, new chapters. An epilogue has also been added.

Review //\\ Hunted

My Rating – 3.5 Stars

When we first meet Jared (and Harper) he is a really sweet, fun and caring guy, so his later transformation was really something else. His alter-ego is definitely sinister and poor Harper most certainly comes off worse when he’s around. Jared’s slow descent into “madness” was very finely crafted, and so terrifyingly believable.

I found it easier to connect with Harper, though that isn’t surprising since Jared wasn’t always quite himself. This meant I didn’t connect with the story with as much emotional depth as I prefer, but I still really enjoyed the story. With both characters being so adorable and cute at first, I was rather puzzled as to just where things were heading, though it quickly becomes clear that not all is well. The plot then rattles along at a rapid pace, with lots of darkness, lots of twists and lots of a very bad man.

Harper remains strong throughout, and I loved her resilience during her trial in the woodland. I did wish nasty things to befall not-Jared, and I had absolutely no idea how the situation would be resolved. Needless to say it was resolved in a very satisfactory way. Hunted is a good addition to the Dirty Heroes collection and shouldn’t be missed.

“It doesn’t matter how far she runs.
This is my forest, and I always catch my prey.”

As a Loxley, I know the rules, I just never took them seriously. I only knew when I finally brought a girl here it would be special. She would be special. And Harper is… perfect. Now we’re out here, alone, and something’s gone terribly wrong.
I broke the rules, I’m losing myself, and I’m afraid she’s going to pay the price. I need to fight this. I need to protect Harper. We’re meant to be, and I know she feels the same. I don’t want to hurt her but… I have to claim her.
I have to make her mine. Before I do something I can’t take back.

Release & Review //\\ The Institute

The Institute

by Dani René, Anna Edwards, Murphy Wallace, India R. Adams, Cassandra Faye, Sian Claven

Release: April 30, 2020

Genre: Dark Romance

Having read all the stories in the anthology, there is definitely something in here for every one who enjoys an erotic twisted story.

1. Echo by Dani Rene
I really enjoyed the idea of two completely different personalities in one body and whilst this is they type of anthology where I’m not expecting any sort of traditional HEA, the ending seemed a little bit pointless. It’s hard to explain without spoiling the story but I couldn’t understand what had led Dr Ansel to suddenly change his mind/behaviour. Where did that sudden volt face come from? I liked the story but it was just a little too disjointed/underdeveloped for me to totally love it.

2. Marbh by Anna Edwards
I really liked this, particularly in it having an antiheroine as the main focus. Again this is vague because it’s a fairly short story and – spoilers! – but I loved the reveal and thought the ending was not only brave but actually perfect. The story totally drew me in, had me fascinated and Marbh is an amazing character.

3. Hostile Illusion by India R Adams

description

A wonderfully tragic, dark, depraved, inspiring, heartwarming, heartbreaking story. Words, words have left me. This story alone makes the book worth buying. I really can’t say too much but it’s got such a wonderfully dark but happy ending. Beautiful, tragic, amazing.

4. Mr Cat Is Not Real by Cassandra Faye (Jennifer Bene)
Oh my word, Nina made me cry! Her desperation to be good, to go outside, to have a friend, for Tom to like her, maybe to get well enough to go home. I’m not quite sure how I feel about Dr Nickelsen and Tom. Are they truly trying to help or just taking advantage. This is such a dark, very dub-con story. In fact given Nina’s mental state it’s non-con, even if she does agree and enjoy it.
JB dragged me through a whole range of emotions with this short story, and left me sort of heart hurt and sort of hopeful. I need to give Nina a hug.

5. Release Me by Murphy Wallace
As I was reading this I wondered how the author was going to wrap things up, because it read and progressed like a full length book. Then I got to the part that said ‘end of part one’ and realised that this probably will eventually become a full length story.
However don’t be put off because the story of Dr Richard and B contained in this book is a twisted, difficult, thought provoking, well paced and very erotic read. It totally captivated me and I definitely will read the rest of the story when it’s released. I would describe it as ending at a natural break point rather than a cliff-hanger ending.

6. Sanitorim by Sian B. Claven
This is a totally new-to-me author and I have to say I was very impressed with the story of Mollie, Lizzie and James. I sort of guessed a few of the twists because of the foreshadowing but that didn’t take away from the enjoyment in anyway. Especially since there were plenty of other twists and surprises along the way.
I’m still wondering about Riley and Jana, that’s possibly the only plot hole but nothing too big and irrelevant anyway given the ending. Which I LOVED!

Serenity is an illusion

Dear Reader,
I trust this letter finds you well.
It is with the utmost concern that we invite you to join us at the infamous Serenity Institute. You’ll be able to observe the goings on of the asylum, meet the patients and the doctors. We do however ask that you please be quiet. Do not interact with the patients, and respect the special treatments our doctors administer.
This is where nightmares come alive.
A home for the shattered psyche of its patients.
Hope is lost when they cross the threshold.
The deranged. The demented. The unstable.
Six stories, six authors, non-stop madness.

Kind regards,
