Hence forth this shall be know as “The book which pulled me out of a reading slump.”

I seem to have spent the few weeks struggling to stick with a book, and even when I have it hasn’t touched my heart and soul in the way that a great book did. Mister Baby Daddy took that poor reading streak, stomped all over it and tore it into tiny pieces with it’s great writing, amazing characters and emotional depth. Even though there is nothing particularly ground breaking or new within the plot, the quality of writing, the sheer amount of feels this book gave me, along with how much I found myself caring for both Walker and Penny, made it a wonderful read.

Whilst I wouldn’t class this as a rom-com, the author does thread humour throughout the story. She balances some very sad and difficult situations with moments of levity and fun. And did I mention just how great Penny and Walker are? It would be easy to become frustrated with the pair, but I couldn’t because the author created two very “real” people who I simply fell in love with.

It was great to catch glimpses of previous couples, and we got to know just a little bit more about Jessa, our next heroine. Based on this series so far I am really, really, REALLY looking forward to reading her and Eli’s story.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

All my life, I’ve been in love with my best friend. All my life I’ve waited for him to notice.
I’m done waiting. I’m moving on with my life…I’m having a baby.

really need to get over Walker Kingston.
My lifelong infatuation with my best friend is sort of embarrassing. The tall, broody hunk of farmer has always been my fierce protector, my constant hero, my knight in flanneled armor. But to him, I’ve never been more than a friend, the girl he saves from trouble in the middle of the night.
This whole damsel-in-distress thing is getting kind of old. I’m tired of being a burden on Walker. I’m ready to stand on my own feet.
I may never win his love but I’m ready to focus on the other things I want in my life. And what I want most? A baby.
I’ve practically got one foot inside the sperm bank when the overprotective farmer intercepts my plan. Now he says he will father my child.
Nope. Nuh-uh. Absolutely not.
I’m trying to get over the guy. So letting him be my baby daddy is low-key dysfunctional. But Walker insists it won’t affect our friendship. Plus, he has all these amazing qualities that make his offer super hard to resist. He’s strong and charming and fine as hell. And he’s the only person I really trust.
Okay. Fine. Grab the specimen cup. Off to the fertility clinic we go.
Except nothing ever goes to plan.
Now I need rescuing–again. And Walker has made it his mission to take care of my every need–again. And when the ever-grumpy cowboy introduces me to his soft, nurturing side, I’m a goner.
Well, damn. How the hell am I supposed to get over the man now?

Friday Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books. It is now hosted by Billy @Coffee Addicted Writings. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Today’s question is
“Do you read books by authors from outside your country?
Any book recommendations?
Also, if non-US/UK, could you name one author/book from your country?” (submitted by Kristin @ Lukten av Trykksverte)

First of all thank you to Kristin for a really great discussion starter! So, yes I do read books by authors from outside my country. I’m UK based and actually read very few UK authors, though I do read some. For me I read mainly US, Aussie, Canadian and NZ authors, though I am currently beta reading for a French author and recently finished beta reading for an author whose first language is Spanish.

Personally I find the Aussie and New Zealand authors have a voice more in tune with my own English one. Colloquialisms, dialect and figures of speech are much easier to translate or are even ones that I use, sometimes it feels as though American English is a completely different language!

So for non-US and non-UK authors I would recommend Cari Silverwood, Sorcha Black, Cassie-Ann L Miller and Nicolina Martin.

Mister Baller by Cassie-Ann L. Miller

A book that makes me both laugh and cry has to be a winner.

Iris and Jude stole my heart in Mister Baller. Their story was simply wonderful, so enjoyable to read. The perfect mix of humour, snark, angst and steam that all blends together to make an amazing love story. I adored Ivy, who was shy but brave and determined, and loved sexy, smooth but also vulnerable Jude.

Cassie-Ann L. Miller writes beautifully, so that you become immersed not only in the story but in the emotions of the protagonists too. I lived the feelings portrayed in this story, I was totally invested in Jude and Ivy, both as individuals and as a couple, cheering them on towards a HEA. Whilst somewhat slow-burn, this is still full of sexual tension and chemistry. An enemies-to-lovers that didn’t have to rely on forced angst to make it interesting, instead great characters and a fantastic story took care of that.

Reading Mister Baller was akin to taking a very pleasant journey, time flew past, there was lots to see and do along the way, we experience a few rough patches but it was all worth while when we got to the end.

Title – Mister Baller
Author – Cassie-Ann L. Miller

My college rival. My ex-husband’s best friend.
My new roommate? Oh, boy.

The last thing I want is to rent my spare bedroom to my ex-husband’s best friend. His six-foot-three, dimple-faced, alphahole best friend.
His injured-professional-football-player best friend.
But desperate times, desperate measures, y’know? I can’t afford to hold grudges. These heaping bills of mine won’t pay themselves.
Keeping my distance from my new roommate should be simple enough. I mean, I can’t stand Jude Kingston. Plus, as my ex’s friend, he’s so off-limits he’s virtually radioactive. In any case, Jude promises to stay out of my way. He’s just a broken football hero in need of a quiet place to focus on healing his injured knee and saving his lifelong dream. Harmless, right? Um, not so much…
The man is infuriating. He spends his days parading that shirtless, muscle-bound body all around my house. He insists on involving himself in my private business. He has zero concept of personal space. But he also has this boyish, unintentional charm. And this inconvenient way of repeatedly coming to my rescue. Suddenly, lust is throbbing in every room of this house. Lingering gazes over the dinner table…
Sweaty workout sessions on the living room floor…
Stolen kisses in the moonlit hallways…

I can’t fight these soft feelings growing roots in my belly. Jude is a vine, slowly wrapping himself around my heart. But when a piece of my past threatens his entire future, will our love even stand a chance?

Review //\\ Mister Billions

Mister Billions by Cassie-Ann L. Miller

Happy sigh… reading this is a fantastic way to spend a few hours.

Alternately funny, moving and sexy, Mr Billions shows that Cassie-Ann L. Miller is back with a bang (every pun intended!). Oh my word this just gave me all the feels, ALL THE FEELS PEOPLE! A hot mess heroine with a dysfunctional family and an a-hole hero with his heart in the right place but his morals all skewed. There are fireworks from their first meeting and enough heat between them to power a small town.

You just know this pair are absolutely perfect for one another, but they are not going to have an easy path to their HEA. But boy, oh boy, was I rooting for them to get there. I still wanted to smack Cannon quite a lot of the time, as did Lexi, but he just showed enough of the decent guy inside him to keep us both on the hook.

Reading Mister Billions felt like coming home, it was safe, warm and immensely satisfying.

Bossy. Infuriating. Sexy as sin…I can’t stand the man.
And he’s waiting for me at the altar.
I’m up to my eyeballs in unpaid rent. So is half this town.
Cannon Kingston is the devilish, arrogant billionaire with the power to save us all. But he wants something in return…
My hand in marriage.

The terms of our twisted contract are simple. A month or two of dirty, dirty matrimony and he’ll drop the eviction threats.
No biggie. I’ve got this…
Until he switches up the rules on me halfway through the deal.
First comes the bed-breaking orgasms.
Then come the late nights, spilling secrets in the dark.
Now, he’s after my heart.
But this is strictly business. Falling in love is a big, fat no-no. I’m not looking for a fairy tale ending. I’m just trying to save myself and my town.
Cannon Kingston is a man who always gets what he wants. And now, I’m at the top of his wishlist.
I’m no spineless damsel, though. I can bring this king to his knees.
…Unless he steals my heart for ransom first.

Mister Billions is a steamy, laugh-out-loud, marriage of convenience small town romance featuring a billionaire with a sinful body, a cocky grin and a serious attitude problem. A full-length (80 000-word) standalone. No cliffhanger. HEA guaranteed.
