Well it soon became very clear that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree
Ms Brandon had me sobbing with the prologue, even though I should probably hate Ethan. It was a massively powerful start to the book and the pace and darkness didn’t let up from there. Flawed is such a perfect title and can apply to so many aspects of this tale, the most obvious of which is Ethan, but it could just as easily refer to Lily and their relationship.
Despite knowing how soulless Ethan is, how dangerous and just so very wrong, I couldn’t help but find him hot. I didn’t always like him, Lily was a lot more forgiving than I would have been, but he was a massively attractive anti-hero/sociopath. Speaking of Lily I adored her, especially with how unafraid she was to explore her burgeoning sexuality and her submissive desires. Her battles and struggles were so believable and the way she stood up to Ethan when he pushed too far was perfect.
This is steamy hot, darkly depraved and slightly scary in equal measures. I loved every damn second of reading about Ethan, Lily and their unusual relationship. There is a slight paranormal element to the book – Ethan and Lily ‘meet’ in their dreams, with Ethan also able to read her mind. As an avid reader of fantasy, sci-fi and other paranormal stories this was fine by me, I also felt the reasoning behind it was well constructed. I really do encourage you to set your inhibitions and preconceptions aside for this one.
I knew I was getting towards the climax of the story, but that ending seemingly came out of nowhere. It was both unexpected and yet simultaneously it was also the only possible outcome. I was left reeling and am massivelycurious as to how the story will continue in book #2. Particularly as Lily still isn’t yet aware of Jody.
This is just as good as the Dark Necessities trilogy, dark and edgy but in its own unique way. If you love a dark story then I definitely recommend this one to you.
Blurb: One powerful serial killer. One visceral connection. One deadly secret that should have stayed buried. Men like Ethan Reilly should never fall in love. Dark, enigmatic and dangerous, Ethan is the perfect predator until he meets Lily Simpson, a woman passionate enough to placate him and strong enough to surrender to him.
For a while Lily’s love is enough.
But the darkness inside Ethan is too powerful to contain, and soon it spills into their burgeoning love affair. As he wrestles with his demons, Ethan must come to terms with who he really is, but if he does, what happens to Lily? Can any love be strong enough to survive a past as terrible as Ethan’s? And what kind of future can they forge from the ashes of his awful admission?
Read Flawed, a Dark Necessities prequel, and discover the making of not one, but two monsters.
My Review I really recommend reading this, but I personally think it’s best read AFTER the Dark Hearts Trilogy
Whilst Wolfeis technically a stand alone story, it is set in the same world as the Dark Hearts Trilogy. These books contain a LOT of background that helps set the scene for this one and Wolfe actually features in the final book of the series. I know from having read Used(a short story set in this world), before any others, how important that world building is.
“We’re never free. We can only dare to run the line between destruction and glory.”
WOLFE
Please don’t read this expecting a standard dark romance, that isn’t what you’ll get from Cari Silverwood. She likes to challenge the reader, provoke deep thoughts, mess with your head and provide lots of hot and kinky fun too. You also have to be prepared to read between the lines and look for the subtle clues. All of this is topped off with a whimsical and sarcastic humour that usually appears at the most inappropriate of times.
Some mornings, I half expected to wake and find a thorn barrier growing out there, or a for a little red riding hood to wander in and join us for breakfast. I had the Wolfe already.
KIARA
Wolfe and Kiara are an absolutely adorable couple. He might be verging on mad, somewhat evil, able to manipulate both her mind and body and with a verydubious history but there is also a massively sweet, kind, charming and loving man under the rough and ready exterior. Despite so many reasons to hate this man, there was just something about him that stole my heart. (And no Ms Silerwood, it wasn’t the size of his cock – though it did help!)
Kiara is a good person caught up in a bad situation and trying to keep those she cares for safe. Before long Wolfe becomes one of those she cares for. She loves his gentle side, she loves his dominant side, she even quite likes his sadistic side, though the monster within somewhat scares her. I loved how she twisted the interpretation of his ‘commands’ in order to disobey whilst not disobeying – you’ve got to love a clever and devious woman!
“We” I touched the band-aid on my neck. That word made us seem like some old married couple, and that was as far as you could get from the truth without catching a train.
KIARA
With outside forces determined to consign Wolfe to experimental history, and the beast suppressing drugs running out, is there a future for this pair? Added into the mix are a handful of mysteries and some shocking discoveries. A few loose ends are left just that, loose. However this fits perfectly with the whole theme of ‘what matters is not who we were, but who we are now’.
It had a very different feel to the rest of the series, strangely I found it ‘gentler’ even though this time the hero WAS the bad guy. There was less forcing and less, for want of a better word, ‘mind-raping’. Unlike the majority of mesmers, Wolfe wanted Kiara to chose the darkness, not just force it on her.
My suggestion? Come join the journey into madness.
This book is dark fiction and may disturb some readers. Please read the full warning at the bottom.
Beauty and the Beast as it’s never been told.
Riddled with bullets and left to die in Thailand, Wolfe is medivacked to the USA. He survives, recovering from wounds no man should be able to heal. Months later, his perplexed doctor lowers the dosages of his medications and Wolfe begins to change.
His powers awaken.
Kiara, his nurse at the rehabilitation village, thinks she only has to hand him over to Russian intelligence agents to save her parents from punishment. It won’t be that simple. Kiara isn’t safe.
The kidnapper becomes the victim.
When free of drugs Wolfe becomes ferocious and animalistic in his desires and actions. What if a man who is almost an animal could command you to do anything he wanted? And you couldn’t resist…
Kiara may be taken past the point of survival.
Be careful who you dare to betray.
Wolfe is a spin-off book from the Dark Hearts series. You do not need to read the trilogy. This is a standalone book.
WARNING This story explores horror and thriller territory. You’ll find some very graphic scenes oozing from the pages.
Another sexy Bliss brother fights fate but finds love in Ruby Bay
Hooked On You is the story of two people who, on the surface, seem to be complete opposites. However over the course of their story it becomes clear that both fear loss of control. Holiday’s coping mechanism is to rarely leave her home whilst Driver refuses to stay in one place for long. Whilst it is the third book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand alone story. However the whole series is wonderful and worth reading!
A chance encounter brings together this sweet hero and his Miracle Girl. An unexpected event links them in a more resolute way. However any kind of future will mean sacrifices must be made and plans must be altered. When you’ve only known someone for a few weeks, is it worth risking your entire future career in the hope of being their forever?
Amelia Wildeis a very fine author indeed. She creates characters that you can’t help but like, imbuing them with such emotion that you find yourself invested in their happiness. I really couldn’t say how she does it, but within a few pages Driver had settled himself firmly into my heart. It didn’t take much longer for Holiday to take up residence next to him. As with the two previous Bliss Brothers books, this was a ‘gentle’ read, as in heart warming rather than heart wrenching.
If it hadn’t been for the fact that the clock said twenty past midnight, then I would have finished this in one reading. The book is towards the shorter end of the novel spectrum, more of a 2 – 3 hour read, but every single page is captivating and engaging. It’s an effortless read but not a boring or mediocre one, which is actually very difficult to achieve. Again testament to the author’s skill.
She also did something a little different and a lot risky. Both Driver and Holiday have been shaped by their past. Driver felt ignored and Holiday had some traumatic event happen to her in high school. We learn this information almost in passing, in throw away comments or brief thoughts and feelings. However we never really get any detail, being left instead to fill in those blanks for ourselves. I’ve lost count of how many books build up some trauma from the MC’s past, only for it to be a huge anticlimax when the big reveal is made. So whilst it maybe felt like depth was occasionally lacking, it was much nicer not to have that *meh* moment.
So to summarise, Hooked On Youis a wonderful read, low angst but full of emotion and wonderful characters. A book I’m happy to recommend to family and friends alike.
My one-night stand has two words for me: Oh, baby!
I’m Driver Bliss, and my one true love is the open road. I’d rather die than get tied down to one place. I need the wind in my hair. I need the road beneath my tires.
I need freedom. And I won’t give it up—not even for Holiday Taylor.
She’s the no-strings-attached fling I can’t get out of my head, no matter how far I drive. The one who haunts my dreams.
I thought I’d never see her again.
But she’s back on the beach with one hell of a bombshell: a bun in the oven. My bun. In her oven.
I’m strapped in for the ride of my life. And this time? My hands aren’t on the wheel.
If you haven’t read the genre before, in a nutshell, Omegaverse is a world that developed on fanfic sites such as AO3. It has a wolf like dynamic with alpha’s (the men and women in charge), beta’s (general population) and omega’s (very attractive to alpha’s and the only ones that alpha’s can reproduce with). These are NOT shifter books, instead they are more like humans but the omega has heats and individuals can be identified as alpha, beta or omega by their scent. Alpha males usually produce a ‘knot’ at the base of their penis, which ties them to the female (usually an omega) during sex. Many books in the genre are quite dark, with alphas forcing themselves on omegas, regardless of what the omega wants.
My Review – 4.5 Stars
Winning His Omega is one action packed and steaming hot sci-fi romance. Whilst set in an omegaverse world, the stories are not as dark as many of the genre. This makes them ideal to those who want an M/F read but don’t like the violence and dubious consent typical of this setting. Even if you do like those darker reads (which I happily admit I do), this is still a well written and very entertaining read. It can be read stand alone, the author has written quite a detail prologue to catch you up on the small amount of backstory you need to know. For me it was perhaps a little too much detail, but then I’ve read all three books. If I was new to the series I might not agree with myself! It’s also only a few pages really, and you’re never going to please everyone all of the time.
I really like the different dynamic in these books. Whilst omegas are still sort after and not necessarily safe from less scrupulous alphas, they are afforded more respect by most. Red is a wonderfully feisty heroine, as fiery as her hair colour and determined to make her own way in the world. Life would be wonderful if it wasn’t for the ever glowering and slightly annoying alpha, Rainor.
Our hero appears in a few scenes in book #1, The Omega Prize, that appearance isn’t really linked to this story but it did leave me with an idea of his character. I have to say I really quite liked Rainor. He’s a pretty decent guy and with his tattoo-like draka and beard he’s a very sexy one too.
The real adventure begins when they find themselves alone on a spaceship and attacked by pirates. They have to put aside their animosity and work together if they are to escape. I loved how the story unfolded from here. My attention was held throughout, the pace was really good, the writing flowed really smoothly and we were treated to some very steamy encounters too. This is definitely my favourite book of the series so far.
Blurb
Red is a strong-willed omega who isn’t afraid to be herself and doesn’t want anyone’s charity or protection.
Rainor was a playboy who’s feeling the urge to settle down and something about Red keeps drawing him. He can’t resist scaring off any male that gets close to her. If he cant have her, no one can.
When the ship they’re on gets hijacked by pirates, they have to rely on each other to win control of it back. Will it finally break the stalemate between them?
This is Book 3 in the Sci-fi Omegaverse series, The Legion Omegas. This book does not end on a cliffhanger and can be read as a standalone, though it will make more sense if read after Book 2, Saving the Omegas. This book has mature content and is intended for an adult audience.

Bors is hungry for revenge after one of his assignments spins out of control. Not only is he tortured by the man he was hired to murder, the president of a notorious and ruthless motorcycle club, but he’s also left in the care of the man’s deranged daughter, Ivy. And she knows exactly who is chained and at her mercy, the one she has wanted dead for three years.
During captivity, Bors witnesses what has become of Ivy’s life, and finds himself trapped between hatred and sorrow for his female tormentor.
“It only took one day for me to hate her more than my worst enemy.
Only took two to start planning her death.
And only three… to fall in love with her.”
Bors is an avenger. Especially Ivy’s.
My Review – 5 darkly delicious stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book contains some very VERY dark themes. One in particular that hits a trigger for most, although we don’t ‘witness’ the event, just the aftermath. The author does go into more detail before the story and even gives you page numbers to avoid. I wouldn’t let it stop you trying what is a fantastic book, as you can skip it and not loose track of the plot.
I’ve not read any work by the author before, but if her other work is as good as this then I will be certainly be adding her to my TBR list. Ivy’s Poison was a dark and gritty romantic suspense. I really liked both Bors’ and Ivy, at heart they are both good people who do bad things for (at least in their minds) good reasons. T here was no stepping back from the edge here, India R. Adamsleads you right to the edge of the precipice and pushes you over into the fiery pits of hell.
I’d only planned on reading a few chapters of this, however once I started this I quite simply couldn’t put it down. It really is a captivating read, sucking you down into the story and not letting you escape until the very end. The quality and style of writing are both good, the plot was intriguing and fast paced with some very unexpected twists.
I found both main characters both believable and likeable. I also appreciated how easy it was to believe in the plot, there was no ‘squinting’ in order to accept what was happening. (Well other than the whole assassin setting part). Bors is quite badly hurt at one point and I loved that we didn’t have a ‘Die Hard’ moment of the severely beaten guy getting up and wiping out a small army.
This is hands down my favourite of the Cavalieri Della Morte books so far, and it will take some amazing writing to better this one.
I’ve had this on my TBR list for what feels like forever. Now I’m mentally kicking myself for not having jumped into this series sooner!
Wicked Ways slips between the cracks of any one specific genre, not quite paranormal, not quite contemporary. It IS dark though, full of dubious consent that teeters very much on the edge of non-consent but not quite rape. Zorie is a woman susceptible to a certain type of male, those known as mesmers. These men can induce mind-numbing lust in those women. They can command their actions through spoken words or thoughts, the closer they are the more powerful the compulsion.
Zorie falls into the clutches of Reuben, a not very pleasant man who uses his power to indulge the whims and sexual fantasies of himself and his perverted friends. He abuses Zorie in the most depraved and disgusting of ways and OMG there is something wrong with me because they are some of the most ridiculously hot scenes I’ve ever read! The worst thing about it all? Whilst she’s in his clutches she loves every single second of it, she adores being used as a fuck-toy, she loves having a man in every orifice whilst others look on and cover her in their come, she loves being put on display and treated like a whore. It’s when she’s no longer totally under his powers that the horror begins.
Reuben isn’t the only mesmer that has Zorie in his sights. However Mr Black wants her for entirely different reasons, somewhat selfish reasons. Reasons that scare Zorie even more than his ability to control her mind. Add Grimm into the mix and you have both hope and heartbreak. I’m not quite sure who I want Zorie to end up with at the moment, I do know she needs to kick some mesmer ass!
Be warned, this story twists and turns you into knots. Just as it offers hope with one hand, it slaps you back down into the gutter, whilst you weren’t looking, with the other. It offers salvation that turns out to be a prison. It f*cks with your mind just as much as those damn mesmer guys do. This was very much a book that I just didn’t want to put down. I was sneaking reads of it at every opportunity, even when I shouldn’t have been.
Whilst it does end at a point where you *could* step away and leave the story, it is so addictive and captivating that I immediately started reading Book #2, Wicked Weapon.
If you like it dark and twisty, then I really do recommend this book.
How do you ever get your mind around being violated in the most depraved of ways, when you also loved every second of it whilst it was happening?
Zorie, Zorie, Zorie how my heart bleeds for you. Ms Silverwoodis the cruellest of authors to put you through such pain, suffering and heartache. Just as you escape the grasp of one deranged mad-man you fall into the clutches of two vile and evil mesmers. Who to trust, what to believe, how to save yourself? When your mind is so manipulated that up becomes down, left becomes right, how do you fight back? What can you do when you don’t even know if your memories are real or imagined? Truth or lie, choice or compulsion?
The manipulation isn’t confined to Zorie either, oh no. Just when you believe one thing, whiz, bam, boom, everything is flipped on it’s head, until you are so twisted up that your mind is just as messed up as it would be had a mesmer played with it. The worst of it is that you will delight in the depravity, get hot when you should be horrified, lust when you ought to loathe and desire when you would normally be disgusted.
If you’re British and old enough you might remember a TV clip of Boy Scouts eating their packed lunches on the Revolution ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Lets just say it was more than messy by the end. Well that’s a perfect analogy for what this book did to my brain. Orange juice up my nose, cheese squashed to my elbow and crisps down my cleavage.
Oh and those damned mesmers, one who offers salvation but at a price. Convinced that he can craft Zorie into a lethal weapon and extract revenge on the men who destroyed his daughter. Zorie isn’t so convinced, not when she can free her mind but not her will. She might be cussing and brewing up a storm in her head, but only whilst her body is following every lurid instruction given to it. Then there are some so evil that you want to stab them in the eye with a rusty spoon, dig out their brains and dance amongst their entrails. No scrub that, it would be far too quick and easy a death. Lets dance on their guts first and then gouge out their brain.
There were so many times when I wondered who the hero was, and indeed if there WAS a hero, or if at some point Zorie was going to be her own hero. This story will make you scream, cry and shout at your kindle in anger. In the best way possible. In a ‘This Is My Favourite Series Ever’way.
I loved this so much that I wasn’t even half way through and I’d downloaded the next book in the trilogy. This book will mess with your mind big time and I really recommend it. Highly recommend it.
Just when you think it’s safe to go out on a killing spree….
After all the sugar honey iced tea that Zorie has been through, it’s no small wonder that she decides mesmers need to become an endangered species. The actions of Reuben, Einar and Kaage enraging her to such a degree that she is now a woman on a mission to eliminate every ‘collector’ she can find.
A close call with one seemingly innocent mesmer finds Zorie questioning herself and her future. Despite all she has been through and all the wrong she knows Grimm and Mavros have done, she only seems to find peace when with them. But how long will that peace last when there are those determined to exact revenge on Zorie and whilst a particularly evil force is interested in Grimm. Adding into the chaotic mix is the bug slowly eroding away the Grimm that we all know and love, threatening to leave behind a monster.
Remorse wasn’t enough to make me throw myself under a bus for a man. Grimm wasn’t any man thought. He’d stood by me past the limits of anyone I knew. If the bug was eating his brain, I was going to do my crap-tastic best to figure out a cure.
Zorie, Wicked Hunt
Wicked Hunt has less of a mind-control aspect, than the previous two books, but it was just as dark and twisty. There are some very nasty scenes, ones where you’ll need to turn on the lights and watch from behind a cushion. Then there are the plots, lies and schemes of so many different bad, or semi-bad, guys that, yet again, you will be left with your mind reeling, unable to put the book down.
Throughout the trilogy I had my hopes for Zorie’s future, and I have to say I was not disappointed in the outcome. It was all that I could have wished for and more. But the journey there is far from easy, it will involve pain, suffering and heartache in equal measure for Grimm, Mavros and Zorie. There is no guarantee of a HEA, certainly not for all of them, and some tough choices will have to be made. However I’m fairly certain that, if you’re read this whole trilogy, you won’t be disappointed by how it ends.
All three books in the series are standard length (approx 3.5 -4 hour reads) and I’ve completed them back-to-back over three days. They are seriously addictive. So much so that every time I had a few spare minutes, I made sure I had my kindle to hand so I could read a few more words, lines or pages.
If a slight paranormal edge (the mesmer mind control) and a damnably dark story line sound good, then this is a series I massively recommend.
I’ve been betrayed. A hit gone wrong. I’m hurt and hunted. She helps me out of fear–an innocent snatched up in my bid to escape. I can’t let her live because she’s seen my face. No survivors. No witnesses. That’s a code I live by and one I’ve always upheld. Yet when it comes to my petal, she makes me hesitate. I want to taste her and make her mine in the most primitive way. Ravage her. Devour her. Allowing my need for her to take hold. Unsure of who to trust, I feel the enemy closing in. I should set her free, but I can’t. I’ll discover who has a price on my head and I’ll end them, meeting blood with blood, and bullet with bullet.
Would she still want me when she sees me kill? Or will it scare her off for good?

My Review
This was a story of two halves for me, with the second part convincing me much more thoroughly than the first.
Overall I’d rate this 3.75. It’s a good solid read, with plenty of action, adventure and intrigue all wrapped up in a fast paced and well written plot.
So why the lower rating? I just didn’t connect with Kay in the first half and would have liked more convincing of Eve’s reaction to him. It had the makings of a dark romance but just didn’t quite hit the right note for me. Kay would make her strip, would touch her sexually against her will but we never heard why he was doing it.
Was it power? To intimidate? Lust? To prevent escape? It worked in terms of shock and dark factor but it didn’t help me understand Kay as a character. Was he being an a’hole? Was he overcome by lust? What type of man was he? An anti-hero? A sociopath? A bad man trying to do doing good things? A good man doing bad things? Too many questions for me to really sink into the book.
And before you assume I can’t cope with a dark book or an anti-hero please check my profile and my read list. Dark romances are my bread and butter, my go to read, my not-so-secret addiction.
Just around the half-way point we get a sudden one-eighty in the situation between Kay and Eve. It took a bit of squinting to make it look believable but it worked for me. Kay then became a much different man, one who I really liked, one whose actions and deeds were much easier to understand and interpret. He suddenly found his personality. He was a man driven to darkness by his life experiences, but at heart a good man doing bad things for the right reasons.
Eve was a much more defined personality throughout, easy to like and believable, picking her battles wisely and displaying an inner strength throughout the story. She, along with an engaging, fascinating and twisty plot, are what kept me reading this book. Usually an inability to connect to characters will have me abandoning the book as a DNF. The fact that I keptreading this book is testament to the overall quality of writing as well as what was a damn good story.
Claire Martais a new-to-me author and based on my experience of reading His Salvation I would read more work by her. This is definitely a good addition to the Cavalieri Della Morteseries and a dark-themed romantic suspense that is well worth reading.
Author Bio:
A native Brit, I live in Italy with my husband and daughter. When I am not writing and drinking copious amounts of tea, I enjoys taking photos of my adoptive country, trying to stay fit with running, reading amazing books and being a stay at home mother.
He needed me. Needed my submission. Needed my obedience. Needed my silent permission for him to take everything I could give.
…. this man had become everything I needed in my life. He was my heart. He owned my soul. He was a dark melody that was in perfect harmony with mine.
Lily White is an author with a quirky and distinct flavour, who consistently delivers something fresh and unique with each offering from her pen. Her books range from pitch black through mind-fuck to erotically disturbed, digging into your psych and challenging your ethics whilst simultaneously luring you to walk a dark and dangerous path.
Sin and Discipline is the story of Amelia, a young girl struggling with life and a piano protege, and Lennon, emotionally damaged piano virtuoso and a man of dark desires. Whilst on the surface this is a Teacher-student Taboo romance, it is also very much more than that. Indeed, if you have read any other books by Ms White, then you will be fully aware that it will contain plot twists that will tie you up in knots. It might also contain pairs of suspenders that will do literally do the same thing!
If you don’t look too deep you will see the story of an illicit relationship, a situation where morals and what is proper clash violently against desire and passion. However there is so much more woven into the complex tapestry that this tale creates. There are hidden secrets, long held grievances, misassumptions, lies and duplicity, all mixed together into a powerful cocktail of anger, heartbreak, lust and love.
Lennon and Amelia meet in unusual circumstances, to say the least. They then discover that he is her mentor on a summer programme where 100 hopeful pianists will be whittled down to one successful scholarship winner. However Lennon wants more from Amelia than just her willingness to learn piano, so much more. He wants her obedience, her body, her soul, demands it like the skilled master he is. He desires to own every single inch of her, to dominate her and to play her body with the skill and appetite he demonstrates at the keyboard. Amelia is only too willing to spiral down this rabbit hole with him, lost in the crashing, discordance of his song, soothed by the gentle harmonies he creates within her.
This man was my hero, whether he knew it or not.
This is one incredibly erotic and passionate read, one where you’ll find yourself blushing just as easily as the innocent and previously untried Amelia. I really wouldn’t recommend reading many of the hotter scenes anywhere other than the privacy of your own home, not unless you enjoy getting all hot and bothered in public. The chemistry between Lennon and Amelia is intense, burning so hot that you might need ice for your e-reader. It also left me wanting a Lennon of my own, a man unafraid to demand everything of me that I have to give. A man willing to tempt me to surrender myself to him. A man strong enough to tear down any boundaries that surround us. I may just be a little in love with Lennon.
Amelia is an exquisite creature, innocent and vulnerable yet also hard as steel. My only ‘issue’, and I’m not even sure I would deem it one, is that Amelia generally felt older than her 18 years. However given the last 9 or 10 years of life with her father, given the hustling and illegal activities she has engaged in, given just given how bloody tough life has been for her and the struggle to keep her head above water, then with a bit of a squint I can believe that she might be more mature than the average 18 year old. I can accept that she looks at the world through more grown up eyes. And at the end of the day I loved this story so damn much that quite frankly I didn’t care.
This book held my attention throughout, every single word, line, page and chapter was captivating and compelling. My heart was repeatedly squeezed with agony and despair and when Amelia left the concert after learning if she had won the scholarship it was shattered into a million pieces. Sin & Discipline is a story that was as far from predictable and bland as it is possible to get. It has amazing characters, depth and emotion and will take you on a journey that will wring your emotions dry.
This will be a massive hit with fans of the author, but is a book that all those who enjoy a cleverly written, scorching hot and boundary pushing romance will also not want to miss out on.
A work of art, he was a man that had been carved by the Devil, steel temptation wrapped in velvet sin, a tease like nothing I’d ever known before.
BLURB
Lennon Carter first saw my face with his hand around my throat.
Shock widened his eyes, starbursts of anger for what I’d done. That moment should have been the last of us; our beginning and end. Fate, it seems, had other plans.
A dedicated musician, Lennon would become my mentor, my shadow, my protector and nightmare. We were two discordant notes that somehow blended with perfect harmony. Challenged to become a pianist as talented as him, I became Lennon’s SIN, while he became my DISCIPLINE.
“Who are you, Amelia Dillon?” Confusion flooded me. “What?” It bothered me how my question came out more as a startled squeak than a word. He grinned, just the corner of his lips curling with lazy satisfaction. Reaching out with his free hand, he trapped my chin between his fingers, holding my gaze to his without concern that I hadn’t invited the touch. Electricity sparked where his skin met mine, my head dizzy, my breath as uneven as my heartbeat. “Who are you?” My heart was in my throat, beating staccato so hard that I swore I was a few seconds from passing out. “I don’t-“ The gentle tone of his voice was at odds with his question. “Are you the shitty little thief hiding in a hoodie and baggy jeans? Or are you a musician who demands respect based on her talent and discipline?” He was enjoying this moment far too much, the truth of his amusement written in the line of his lips, the sleepy look in his blue eyes. It only frightened me more. “I’m a musician,” I whispered. Mr. Carter leaned forward and I panicked, my eyes locked to his lips. He shouldn’t have been this close to me. There had to be rules against this. He didn’t seem to care. I wasn’t a girl to be pushed around or controlled. Yet, in his presence, I stilled in place, unable to find the willpower to fight or move away. Breath hot against my cheek, he whispered, “I don’t think you are. I think a musician would know better than to risk her hands acting like a stupid hoodrat that robs people. I think a musician knows better than to question the man who will be judging her performance. I think-“ My lips parted on a tremulous breath. “-you didn’t believe me when I warned you I would spank your ass red if I ever caught you doing something so stupid again.” There was no question about it; I was three seconds away from passing out. **swoon** … just … **swoon**!
Gosh just where do I start with this one? Love is a Beach is quite a story, both in length and plot. It’s too long to really be able to read in one sitting, though the way it held my attention and captured my heart I both wish I could have consumed it in one go, and yet never finished it either. Whilst not a second-chance romance, it isa story of getting a second chance at love, happiness and family. And, whilst ‘the course of true love never did run smooth’, a promise to wait however long it takes is never given lightly.
As he presses a sweet, tender kiss to my lips, my tears fall harder as I wonder if we can survive this when this already feels like dying. It’s one thing to say you’ll wait for someone.
It’s another to actually do it. My father didn’t stick around. My husband didn’t stick around or even fight for us. And Leo? He could have any woman he wants, why wait an indefinite amount of time for me?
Darcy, Love is a Beach
Not only is this Darcy and Leo’s story, but it is Nana, Archer, Abigail and Niall’s story too. You can’t help but fall in love with these wonderful, troubled and very special people. We all need a Nana in our lives, and if Archer is partly based on her own son, the, Lilliana Anderson has one of the cutest and most wonderful 8 year old boys on the planet. I think Archer could bring world peace and solve all the planets problems if he ever put his mind to it.
“I do hate him. Dad’s aren’t meant to steal, Abby. It’s come-on sense.”
“Don’t you mean ‘common-sense’, dear?” Nana asks.
“No. It’s like when someone does something really dumb and everyone shouts, ‘come on’ at them because they should have known better. Come-on sense.”
Archer and Nana, Love is a Beach
The chemistry between Darcy and Leo could be felt, it smoulders from the page and has you rooting for this couple from the off. Leo is a unicorn of a man and I’m so jealous of Darcy finding such a wonderful, yet also very believable, guy to love her. I don’t CARE that he’s fictional, I totally fell for him too. Darcy is so hugely giving and forgiving that you can’t even dislike her. You’re actually pleased that someone as wonderful and special as Leo enters her life, because quite frankly she deserves it.
We just …. click. And I’m at the age where you don’t pass that kind of thing up. You wait. Even if it means the only action you get is with Mrs Palmer and her five daughters for a while
Leo, Love is a Beach
Whilst the author wrote this as a rom-com for me it transcends that genre, or at the very least is the bar by which all other books are judged. It’s more smiley-giggly-fun than snort-through-the-nose laugh out loud BUT that was what I loved about it. Some books do make you howl and chuckle in public, but very often they are also a little too cheesy with fairly 2 dimensional characters. Here the humour is much more observational than slapstick. It’s in the zest for life of the characters, the embarrassing moments we all encounter and that’s what makes it work so well.
..but when the orgasmic shudders subside and reality sets in, it turns out I’m just a forty-year-old woman sitting on top of her Nan’s next-door neighbour, holding her tits up about her neck and looking foolish….. “I should go.” I frown, and release my tits. They bounce twice, well, it’s not a bounce exactly, more a double tug as gravity taken them back to where it’s dragged them over the years.
Darcy, Love is a Beach
Darcy and Leo find each other quickly and yet also take a long time to find their path too. Yet at no point did the book ever feel as though it was dragging it’s feet. Never did a passage feel like unnecessary filler. Quite simply this couple had one heck of a story to tell, a story of one step forward and two steps back, at times, a story of choosing the right path. A story of two betrayed souls finding the strength to take risks and do what makes them happy, rather than what is safe.
We all sit there, drinking slippery nipples..
“You keep smiling and telling us everything is good, But your eyes are really, really sad.” “I see.” I take a big, sobering breath, struggling not to let my sad eyes leak sad tears.
Archer and Darcy, Love is a Beach
This is a must read book. It’s sexy and sweet, painful but passionate, hopeless but hopeful. It has two amazing, believable and very human main characters in Leo and Darcy plus a host of supporting characters that range from the sublime to the ridiculous. I can guarantee that not only will you enjoy every single minute of the book but you too will then be recommending it to family and friends.
And finally I feel it’s only right and proper to leave the last few words to Nana and Darcy.
I wonder how Nana and her Bayside Biddies are doing.
“As long as their maypole works and they give as good as they get I’m a happy lady.” Does anyone else have an eighty-something grandmother who talks this openly about her sex life? No? So, it’s just me then.

A word to the wise: when the man of your dreams appears, don’t wear the exact same dress as your nana…
The day Darcy learned the news of her husband’s remission she expected a celebration, or at least a nice piece of cake. Instead, she’s served with divorce papers. Oh, and the knowledge they’re bankrupt.
With her twenty year union over and two children to support on her own, she moves in with her eccentric grandmother, hoping to find peace and quiet in the seaside town of Bayside.
What she isn’t expecting to find is a set of saggy old man balls upon arrival.
Needing to bleach her eyes, calm her screaming teen daughter and stop her eight year old son from filming the chaos to upload, Darcy is already reconsidering the sanity in her decision. Turns out, Nana is quite the player in the retirement circle.
She also fancies herself a bit of a matchmaker.
Deciding local football legend, Leo Murphy will provide the ultimate distraction for Darcy, Nana enlists the help of her trouble-loving great-grandson with somewhat disastrous results. Leo doesn’t know what hit him. Literally.
With a great smile and a body to die for, it isn’t hard to convince Darcy to give Leo a chance. It also helps that he has a lot of patience for one particularly rambunctious young boy and can’t run too fast on his busted knee—a captive audience is easily swayed, after all.
But with a teenager in the midst of a meltdown, a heart cracked and bruised, and a son who keeps her on her toes, even a chance could prove too much for Darcy. Luckily Leo isn’t the kind of man who gives up easily.
The Pacifistis the 10th and final book in the Men of the North series. Whilst many of the books can be read as a stand alone, and indeed the romance part of this could be, it also ties together an ongoing back story. For that reason I would recommend reading at least the previous two books in the series. (The Athlete and The Fighter)
Whilst the underlying theme of the book, and series, has been finding common ground and compromise, this book dealt with those themes outside of the relationship. In The Fighter we had a woman fighting to overcome prejudices in the Northlands, whereas The Pacifist deals with a Motlander man trying to change his country for the better.
If you’ve read any of the other books, particularly the earlier ones in the series, you will know that Mila has lived in the Northlands since she was a young girl. With her gentle nature and kind soul, she captured the hearts of all those who met her. She particularly captured the love of Magni, one of the roughest, toughest and meanest of the N’men. Mila is a delightful heroine, she really grew emotionally during the book and even became somewhat of a temptress!
Jonah was a delight, a man not afraid to question injustice and stand up for what he believed in. There were times when he was so dense I wanted to shake him, but at the same time I loved how it was the woman who was the sexual aggressor in this story (or at least initially).
There is so much more to this book than just the ‘mere’ romance. Though it also demonstrates that romance is so very important in life and is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, there are a lot of messages in this book that, if followed, would make the world a much better place in which to live!
We get to see many familiar faces, along with a few new ones, and it was wonderful to catch up on their lives. Whilst I’m sad to see the end of the series, and this wonderful bunch of characters, it was also great to see the start of a more positive future for them too.

A promise is a promise but this promise is one I should have never made.
Mila, a sweet pacifist born in the Motherlands, has avoided conflicts all her life. Now, living in the Northlands with the ruling family who adopted her, she’s under pressure to follow the traditions of the North and let fierce warriors fight for her hand in marriage.
But how can she marry if it means giving up on her friendship with Jonah, the first male councilman in the Motherlands and her closest friend? Every night they talk, laugh, and share their darkest secrets.
Will Mila find a voice strong enough to say no, and is she willing to jeopardize her family’s political power for Jonah, who most likely wants nothing but a platonic friendship with her? Or does he?
The Pacifist is the tenth and last book in Elin Peer’s wildly successful Men of the North series. Don’t miss out on this epic ending to a great dystopian adventure that offers suspense, humor, and romance.
